Description: The Jumble Room in Grasmere is now in its 20th year and from very humble beginnings their ethos has remained the same...Take the very best local and where possible organic ingredients and cook them with love and care.. Our small colourful little restaurant in Grasmere has become internationally renowned, not for pomp and circumstance but for a place to relax and forget our mad and hectic lifestyles...to escape....switch off... if only for a little while.... and leave with the light glowing a little brighter! It is said of the jumble room that it has soul, a small bohemian style restaurant, casual, honest, restorative and uncompromising in the pursuit of quality Prepared with love and served with pride!

Sad to say I was disappointed with our dining experience at the Jumble Room. I made the booking to mark a special occasion but a few minutes into arriving began to wish I booked somewhere else! The reasons why:
1) It was a cold night anyway but the place was cold... we were seated downstairs and both of us felt cooler rather than warmer for our stay. Didn't feel as if there was any heating on....

2) Bread was served to us but with butter straight out the fridge, so putting it on the bread just resulted in a mess...

3) The main course for both of us was the lamb shank... it was ok but to be honest we have enjoyed this particular dish at another local hotel, where the surroundings have been warmer and not as costly!

4) Went upstairs to go the toilet only to see another room full of tables and people... much nicer than downstairs and warmer too!

So, by all means go eat at the Jumble Room... but ask to be seated upstairs-this was never offered to me and I booked about a week ahead.... Value for money, not really and we wouldn't rush back, the tempation being to drive a few miles down the road and go to a local Hotel in Ambleside ... or most other places really.....!

We have eaten at the Jumble Room for many years and its always a special occasion for us. We visit Grasmere 3 or 4 times a year as we love it so much and a family meal at the Jumble Room is something that we look forward to.
The food is consistently good with the fish and chips being a favourite! The starters are fantastic and the addition of "little nibbles" is great with the 'Arancini' being our favourite. The kids choices are also excellent with the staff being quite relaxed about half a portion of steak, or kids portion of pasta or chicken, cooked as preferred with a choice of veg.
There is a wide choice of desserts, although we missed a 'crumble' option this evening, which I think is a must for Autumn/Winter, over a cheesecake - personal choice though.
What has been up and down for us over the last couple of years, is the service and tonight the service was brilliant, thanks to Jo - who usually works in the kitchen but tonight was working front of house and we were all so pleased that she was - she was brilliant! So natural, genuinely pleased to serve you, no question was too much to answer and she was so positive in her approach! She really did make our evening!
We came on New Years Eve 2012/13 and never having been before over the Christmas or New Year season, we booked far in advance and as a family, we were so excited about our New Years Eve Meal. We were greeted by a lady that had worked front of house for many years and her greeting was to tell us how exhausted and stressed she was by the evening so far and how busy the restaurant had been - this was the theme throughout the duration of the meal - it was such a disappointment.
Jumble Room needs a breath of fresh air from a service perspective and Jo certainly gave it that tonight. We had a really wonderful evening and this level of service, combined with the food which was fantastic made us excited to return once again, which is how everyone should feel about eating at the Jumble Room.
Thanks Andy for your lovely restaurant and food. We hope to return very soon to Jo or someone very similar to her nature, in the future.

After reading reviews online we had to try the Jumble Room. Forgot to book but luckily for us there was a cancellation. Amazing food, amazing service and a great atmosphere. Couldn't recommend this place more and we're going to be coming back soon with friends and family.
