“Why stay anywhere else?”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2013

We have just got back from a 4 night stay at Beck Allan's. It was a perfect stay from start to finish. The B&B is right in the heart of Grasmere and so walking distance to wonderful restaurants and cafes. We walked straight from the accommodation every day and Ian was always available to help with useful tips. Our room (3) was spotless, had the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in and a wonderful hot and powerful shower. Christine and Ian made us feel very welcome and helped with anything needed. Now for breakfast...all fresh, very tasty, variety of healthy and not so healthy options. Quality as well as quantity - just what is needed to set you up for te day. Ian and Christine are set up perfectly for walkers and helped me get my very wet boots nice and dry for the next days walking. I can't wait to visit Beck Allan's and Grasmere again.

Located in the centre of Grasmere with the river running alongside it this B & B is exceptional value for money. The owners made us feel very welcome and served a full english breakfast which was exactly what was needed before a days walking. The bed was very comfotable, stacks of hot water and spotlessly clean. I would not hesitate to recommend it plus parking space for the car was a real bonus for me.

Where to start? What an amazing place to stay. The position right in the centre of Grasmere at the side of the small river is fantastic. The property itself and the decor of the rooms (we stayed in room 2 overlooking both the river and garden) are second to none. The bed was very comfortable and we had 2 great nights sleep. I can't recommend the breakfasts enough, we stayed 2 nights and I tried both the cooked and the continental and both were top quality. The owners were so helpful and friendly from arriving to leaving. I can't wait to go again and really didn't want to leave.

We have just returned from a three night stay at Beck Allans and can say without contradiction that this is the best b&b we have ever stayed in. The owners, Christine and Ian are fantastic and make you feel so welcome. The breakfast is superb and sets you up for the day. Being a self confessed "sausage snob" I was delighted with those served to me each morning. My wife had a continental breakfast on the last morning and it was a picture in presentation and tasted fantastic. We were in room number 2 which over looks the river Rothay and the room is delightful and the bed was so comfortable that a good nights sleep was guarenteed. The b&b is situated right in the middle of the village.

Room Tip: Room two would be my first choice.

We have stayed at this Guest House on five occasions now & it is still offering the same high quality accommodation and breakfasts. The owners are extremely friendly and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. The accommodation is truly luxurious with comfortable beds, soft, fluffy towels and in a peaceful and picturesque location. It is well worth visiting!

We have visited Grasmere on many occasions and this is an excellent choice if you require accommodation in the centre of the village and do not wish to stay at one of the larger hotels. The Guest House is of traditional Lake District stone. The River Rothey is adjacent and is the View from Some of the rooms. The rooms are modern and have excellent facilities with the usual items (tea making / large TV / WiFi etc..) They are well furnished and spotlessly clean. One minor drawback is the size as if you want to spend time relaxing then our room 3 had only one seat in addition to the bed to sit on. Room 2 is better but here the WC is separate from the shower room and some might find this inconvenient? Breakfasts are splendid offering the traditional full English as well as many and varied alternatives. Ian and Christine, the hosts, are extremely friendly and helpful. Just ask and they will do their best to help.
There are several good restaurants/hotels, open to non-residents, in Grasmere but many can be moderately expensive so you can increase your choice by driving to Ambleside for a much wider selection.
There was a minor problem with parking facilities whilst we were staying in that there was scaffolding in place on the adjacent Beck Allan self-catering apartments (owned separately). They
share the relatively cramped car park and if there are large cars (eg SUVs) then care is needed when parking.

Room Tip: See main review.

Christine and Ian are great hosts and go the extra mile to help you out and make you feel comfortable. Lovely room in the historic building, but with new and modern ensuite bathroom facilities. Ian gave excellent advice on hiking trails, dining options, and car routes through the Lake District. Breakfasts were special and delicious. Highly Recommended!
