I have lost count of the number of times we have stayed here over the last 12 years, but again we have thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It's the first winter stay and we were wondering whether the rooms would be warm enough or not. It was not a problem as the rooms were nice and toasty on our arrival back each evening. Breakfast was as good as usual, but the additional juice and/or smoothie was a welcome addition. Yet again top marks, thank you.

We had a stop over in Grasmere and stayed there for three nights. Our first impression of Beck Allans was that it was a nice Bed and Breakfast place but unfortunately after spending three nights there found the owner to be rather aloof and kind of uneasy having to see him in the mornings.
My feeling was that if you stay in someone's home because essentially it is their home you are staying in, at least be friendly.

Room Tip: For that price look for something where you don't have to face the owners each morning!

Just returned from a few nights at Beck Allans, a very comfortable B&B in the middle of Grasmere. Helpful hosts and good breakfasts made for a totally stress free break, despite not having quite the best weather for walking in the last few days! However, if you're looking for a good base for walking in the Lakes I'd certainly recommend this B&B; it's the well thought-through details like trays being provided for your muddy boots and hanging space for wet coats that make a difference. The only observation I'd make is that breakfast isn't served until 08.30 which is fine if you're having a leisurely break, but if you wanted to get out for longer walks, particularly if you have to factor in travelling time to a starting point away from the immediate area, then at this time of year with it getting dark by 4pm (November) you'd risk finishing your walk in the dark.

I had the responsibility of choosing a guest house for a visit to the Lake District with an American friend. Everything more than exceeded my expectations and Ian and Christine could not have been more helpful. The position of the guest house is beautiful the room five star, and the breakfasts outstanding. My friend was charmed by the whole experience.Me too.

What a fantastic experience staying at Beck Allans Guest House is! Ideally situated in the heart of Grasmere this is a first class B & B. Christine and Ian work very hard to make sure their guests are their priority. The rooms are very comfortable and tastefully furnished. Ian cooks the tastiest breakfast everything just perfect, the mushrooms ard scrambled egg are excellent! Visit Beck Allans once and you will want to return!

Room Tip: Room 2 is fantastic, lovely view and a beautiful bathroom.

Absolutely nothing to criticize only praise. Ian and Christine work very hard to look after their guests, giving them a most comfortable stay. They should be very proud of themselves.
We have rarely stayed anywhere where there was such attention to detail, cleanliness, hanging space etc.
As vegetarians we enjoyed the 'full English breakfast' Ian cooked for us.
Our experience here, together with the fact that Beck Allans is so centrally placed in Grasmere makes it a real gem!

My husband and I stayed at Beck Allans guest house for just one night but wished it was longer! Christine welcomed us with a cup of tea and the key to our up-graded room - the perfect start! Room 8 was beautifully clean, with all the home comforts you'd expect from a B&B plus the modern conveniences you'd pay extra for in a hotel. As it is situated in the heart of the village, finding somewhere to eat in the pouring rain was easy as everything was on the doorstep, plus Christine had given us recommendations - and discount cards/codes! We both had a great night's sleep and the breakfast the following morning was stunning. We both had the Full English and the quality of the produce was faultless. No water-logged supermarket bacon or sawdust-sausage here! We were sad to leave after such a brief stay but look forward to returning and will be recommending it to all our friends and family.

The only disappointment about our stay (and nothing to do with the guest-house!) was that the village pub, The Lamb Inn is so poor. It is part of the Best Western Red Lion Hotel and as such has had any village charm or character ripped out of it to bring it in line with the corporate look of a Best Western property. Although Becks Allan guests can get 10% off food at the Lamb Inn, I'd suggest to Ian and Christine that they stop recommend it, as the place is not in-keeping with the high standard of food, atmosphere and hospitality that they offer at the guest house.
