“Gingerbread galore..even pot pourri”
Reviewed October 16, 2010

Great tasting gingerbread, can't fault that - but the shop is very small and only fits about 3 people in - needs to be a little larger. Worth a look if you like gingerbread but nothing for the kiddies to do.

Good place to visit in grasmere. Yummu gingerbread, the smel as you walk into the shop is amazing! I brought 4 packs of 6 gingerbread, and I can assure you they won't be around for long.

“The Gingerbread is outstanding!”
Reviewed January 25, 2010

Very dusty, with a firm-to-bite consistency - it's not like normal gingerbread. It's 10 times better! The old fashioned wrapping, and rustic charm of this iconic little shop just add to the experience. Grasmere is a pretty town, and Sarah Nelson's is a must-do for any foodie when visiting The Lake District.

Reviewed August 9, 2009

My wife and I visit Grassmere on average 3 times a year and part of the enyoyment is having an evening meal at the Bistro.
Atmosphere relaxed, food wonderful and presentation perfect.
Home made soup, steak and lamb shank amongst my favourites.
Gentleman serving most helpful and pleasant/attentive.
advise booking a table first and enjoy the experience!

“Best Gingerbread Ever”
Reviewed July 29, 2009

We visited Grasmere, because i had seen the shop on the tv.IT's not what i expected at all.
The shop is next to the church and once inside it's like going back in time.It is tiny but it was lovely. The smell as you go in is unbelievable. The first thing you see is the staff dressed in victorian clothes which was a lovely touch, and their really friendly, even though they are rushed off their feet.
The gingerbread comes wrapped in paper, held together with an elastic band.We walked round the churchyard, whilst eating the gingerbread, with drizzle falling on us,but it was a lovely setting,so didn't care.
The taste of the gingerbread is like nothing you get in the shops,it's definately not like a gingerbread man, more a cress between a cake and biscuit, but it's well worth having, especially if it's still warm from the shop.Even my fussy 4 year old liked it and asked for more.
I can imagine it gets busier in the summer months,we visited a 2nd time to get last minute presents, and there was about 30 Japanese Tourist taking photo's of the shop and this was in May,so must get busier, but it's worth the wait in the queue.
