Great gingerbread. Very small shop which very often you have to queue outside to be served. All dressed in period costume. Great treat to take home it you can manage not to eat it before leaving Grasmere.

Located in the heart of the village, in a converted schoolhouse next to the church where William Wordsworth is buried, and owned/run by the same family for 60 years or so. Superb, freshly baked gingerbread (the turnover is so high you'll always get freshly made cakes!) for which we regularly travel up the M6, and have even walked around 17 miles for from our rented cottage once! I want some now!!!!

We visit the Lake District most Autumn's (when the colours are the bracken and tree's are at their best) and no visit is complete without a pilgrimage to Grasmere and to Sarah Nelson's Gingerbread shop.
It's 155 year old recipe is a closely guarded secret and the original hand-written recipe is kept in a bank vault.
There is always a long queue of people waiting outside the quaint shop (which can hold about 6 people at a time) to buy their Gingerbread (£2.95 for 6 pcs and £4.95 for 12 pcs add £2 if you want it in a souvenir tin) whilst the spicy aroma that drifts from the shop door is just wonderful.

I'm hooked - I bet you will be too!! Give it a try.

The Grasmere Gingerbread Shop (Sarah Nelson's) is a tiny shop which sells the most amazing and delicious gingerbread I have ever had! It was a bit of a challenge getting into the shop as it is tiny and a total tourist trap but once in and out with our package of gingerbread we could thoroughly enjoy the still-warm treat. The gingerbread itself is very reasonably priced (considering it is so touristy) and I would definitely recommend popping in to get a packet if you are in the area!

Grasmere is a lovely little place to have a well deserved chill! The gingerbread in this shop is amazing!! first time I had tried it and I didn't know what to expect, it is crunchy and chewy all at the same time, well recommended!!
