“Just Fabulous!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 3, 2013

If you like your historic properties full of roped off exquisite items don't come here.
If you think children should be seen and not heard don't come here.
BUT, if you want to enjoy and experience the most stunning views the Lake District has to offer in a real house, full of real character go and find your shoes.
If you think children and adults should experience art, and books and typewriters (yes, proper typewriters) and crafts and toys and fun for as long as they like, pick up your car keys.
If you want to wander and romp around beautiful grounds, you should now be driving to Grasmere.
If you want sit where ever you like in this amazing building, with a cup of coffee (and rather yummy cake) and just enjoy being there. Get your car parked and take the short walk through the village.
If you would like to meet the nicest NT staff ever, who genuinely love this beautiful old house and will make you love it too, you aren't even reading this bit - you're already there.
ENJOY

“Mini Retreat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 28, 2013

Husband was climbing Helm Crag. I had a wonderful restful time relaxing in the lounge reading and writing as I waited for him. I explored the house and was thrilled with it all. Thanks for a place to be, giving me some activities to try out (knitting, art); and for the refreshments and gardens.

“Fabulous Views”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 26, 2013

A very different property run by The National Trust in Grasmere. The property only has one room furnished as Samuel Coleridges Study the rest of the house is empty but you can just sit relax and take in the fab views or read the various books on offer. There is crafts going on in different rooms and when we visited it is decorated for Halloween children can paint or colour pictures with the items provided. A room downstairs is where you can make yourself a free drink and purchase a cake or biscuit, The gardens are worth a walk round and you can also walk through a tunnel and see the woods or climb to the viewpoint. No car park you have to park in the village.

“Varied short walk with stunning views”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2013

Although the house is not completely refurbished, the staff were really friendly and helpful. The painting room had artists materials for people to use and had beautiful views over Grasmere. However, the real highlight is the walk which was excellent with really spectacular views. I'm a relatively fit 50-odd year old and really enjoyed the 40 minute walk (includes picture taking) which has some steep sections to it and there is real interest throughout. The red squirrels were also relatively easy to spot - take a camera for these and the views!

Once the house is finished being refurbished a must visit place, worth the walk now just to take in the views.
