The Daffodil Hotel & Spa
Ranked #6 of 14 Hotels in Grasmere
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed June 12, 2013

I would highly recommend this hotel if relaxation is what you're after. We have just returned from two, blissfully chilled out days in Grasmere and this place is on our 'favourites' list now. The hotel is large, modern and quite chic. It's newly renovated and by the looks of things, no expense was spared. Some great artwork and photographs around the place.

Our room was large and beautifully decorated (husband is a decorator and had great compliments for whoever decorated the hotel!), with two apects over the most beautiful scenery (and goslings, so cute!).

The bed was enormous and so, so comfy, we both slept very well. We didn't experience any noise at all, except for the usual.. other guests just letting their door bang shut... why do people do that..?!!The bathroom was large, with a huge bath and also a walk in shower cubicle. Gorgeous Molton Brown products. A good selection of hot drinks, biscuits and complimentary bottled water were provided; and, yeay! proper large mugs! Only thing missing was sweetener, which is available, but you have to request it.

We really enjoyed the thermal pool and aromatherapy steam room and I had a great massage and facial in the spa. Expensive, but worth it for 90 mins of pure pampering. Body, mind and skin really benefitted! Husband would have liked a fitness room, but walking in the stunning surrounding area was exercise enough for me!

The restaurant was very good, we enjoyed a very tasty meal there and the breakfasts couldn't be faulted either. As with any hotel though, drinks are pretty heftily priced. Seven pounds for a vodka & lemonade and a water... Really?!!

Lovely outside terrace area overlooking the lake, but the rest of the grounds are just mainly rough ground. I hope there are plans for a bit of landscaping. This would really finish the place off. There is plenty of free parking for hotel residents.

The whole place was spotlessly clean, the staff were friendly, polite and helpful. A short walk takes you into Grasmere, which is such a pretty place (pricey parking though) We will definitely stay at The Daffodil again. Great.

Room Tip: Room 307 was fabulous!

We booked this hotel through Hidden Delights in the Daily Telegraph with a percentage off and we were upgraded when we checked in. We overlooked a lovely valley full of bluebells and sheep. Our room was very spacious with comfortable beds and there were interesting, and different prints on the walls. En route to the Dining Room were paintings in the style of various well-known artist's depicting their wives. I would have liked to know more about these paintings but nobody seemed to know.
We ate in the restaurant one night and, although the staff were attentive and couldn't be faulted, we found the food fairly mediocre and the few people eating there made it a bit soulless. The breakfasts, however, were a totally different matter and were excellent. We would certainly return.

Room Tip: I imagine Lakeview would be best, but Valley view was perfectly acceptable.

Just back from a 2 day stay in this fantastic hotel. I haven't been in the Lake District since I was a teenager and after this visit I wonder WHY!!! The Daffodil is a great, modern hotel with excellent friendly welcoming staff. The room was large, bright and immaculate with a view of the Lake. Food was very good and cocktails on the terrace - well what more can I say :-). We will definitely be back.
The geese and their young grazing in the morning was quite magical.

I'd been wanting to go to the Daffodil for a while and when it came up on a KGB deal I couldn't resist. My husband has MS and has mobility issues and although he doesn't require an 'accessible' room he does need a room that is near the lift and has a separate shower (as opposed to one over the bath). I spoke to Georgina on Reception before I booked and she couldn't have been more helpful or accommodating - and the same went for the rest of the staff throughout our stay.
We were allocated room 214 which is spacious, with a roomy bathroom with separate shower (I love the motion sensor on the mirror light!) french doors that open (protected by a glass barrier as you're on the second floor) which allowed us to sit basking in the afternoon sun enjoying the view of the hills. If you looked down we were above a flat roof and could see heating vent pipes, but they didn't detract from the view and weren't noisy.
Everything was spotlessly clean and fresh, and the food was delicious. We ate in the restaurant both nights and the service was efficient and friendly. Breakfast was a buffet, and was plentiful - cereals/yogurts/fruits/toast/fresh artisan breads/pastries/porridge/full hot english breakfast items/juices......brilliant.
The thermal pool with it's various types of water jets was relaxing, as was the large steam room - a lovely 'downtime' between visiting the local attractions and getting ready for dinner.
Overall we loved our stay here - good location, clean and comfortable, good food and excellent service - we'll definitely be back!

Just returned from three nights at The Daffodil. It is a very smart and modern hotel in a beautiful location with stunning views of the lake.
The staff were without exception very polite, friendly and helpful. The rooms are well appointed, there is an iron and ironing board in every room, the decor is light and minimalist and the beds are very large and very comfortable. The bathroom is lovely, the shower is very spacious and powerful and Molton Brown products are provided. The whole establishment is spotlessly clean.
We had an evening meal in restaurant, the food was excellent and the service was excellent and the views of the lake from the restaurant are stunning. The weather was lovely and we sat outside on the lakeside terrace, again the views of the lake and mountains are stunning. There is a large choice at breakfast with the cooked choices being especially good.
The spa area is lovely with a large thermal spa ( not a swimming pool as I thought from the website) and I had a facial which was very good and in my opinion ( though not my husbands) very reasonably priced.
We had a fantastic time and I would highly recommend the Daffodil which in my opinion represents good value for money considering the high level of service, the beautiful decor and surroundings.

We had our wedding here 1st June 2013. All our guests cannot get over their experience. Guests travelled from both Cumbria and Ireland and could not believe how beautiful the area is and the hotel so full of character with the local stone. The rooms are gorgeous the hotel function room makes a fantastic blank canvas for what ever your theme may be and not like most other beautiful hotels the function room is not in the armpit of the hotel, it is light and airy with a beautiful neutral carpet. The staff particularly Dominique will seriously go out of her way to do anything for you even our guests noticed this!! Our pictures are beautiful we were graced with fantastic weather and stunning lake view . The food could not have been beaten we had filliet steak cooked to perfection even one of our guests who is a highly regarded butcher said the meat couldn't be better. This hotel and its staff truly catered for all our needs we could not have asked for much more. We will be back and so will our guests!!! All our love and best wishes for the future and guaranteed success of this hotel. Peter and Lisa Murphy

Room Tip: We stay in 301 it's the only room with a corner balcony xxx

I am keeping this brief, we visited this hotel for the first and last time a few months ago, Spa area was lovely. Our room was a major disapointment, the window/balcony door did not open or close correctly and we were left hearing the droning noise of a generator all night and also staff outside smoking late at night/early in the morning who were very loud in conversing with each other. we reported the door before going out for tea and this was not repaired or even checked.

We reported all of this to reception and were promised a phone call from the manager to resolve this and a couple of months later we are still waiting.

Needless to say we wont be visiting again.

Room Tip: choose one away from the generator at the front near the car park
