“A beautiful, relaxing, indulgent experience within a homey, cosy but tasteful setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 19, 2010

I chose to spend the weekend at this Hotel for my 21st Birthday along with my parents and sisters. I had been once before and enjoyed it so much I just had to come back again. The rooms each with their own name are all individually and beautifully decorated. The Hotel itself is in a picturesque part of the countryside and is a great place to spend a relaxing, indulgent few days at any time of year, with its open fires, comfy common room and friendly staff. It is an opportunity to have a relaxing quintessentially British Holiday where the food is great, the people are friendly and relaxation and tranquillity is a given.

We were revisiting the hotel after being there 18yrs ago. We had enjoyed our stay so much then, we thought it would be nice to go back. The location is second to none and the views still as breath taking and unchanged as before. The staff were very nice and accommodating, and the food is excellent. But the hotel was generally a bit shabby, and in need of updating, and not too clean. Our bedroom was not very clean either, and again in need of some updating, and felt it was expensive compared to other hotels in the area.

Superb location, very friendly and helpful staff and excellent food and drink. Our room, however, was a disappointment . Could have been cleaner and fresher and the bathroom in particular was poor - including a hole in the wall covered by a picture and an extract fan covered in dust. Plus it was very small with a bath wedged into an alcove. Shame because everything else was excellent but the room quality didn't reflect the price paid.

Dear Laurasdad
Thankyou very much for your review and we are glad that you found so many things excellent like the food, drink and staff. I would like to take this opportunity to assure you that all your comments are taken on board as we constantly review procedures to ensure that rooms are serviced to the highest standard. A mention to us at the time is even more helpful as then we can endeavour to promptly rectify any oversights such as the dusty extractor fan, and reservice a room if it is not found up to standard. We may also have had other rooms available which we would have been very happy to show you if we had known that you were disappointed with this particular room and bathroom.
Regarding the size of this particular bathroom, Lancrigg is a very old historic listed building and it was not possible to provide all the rooms with spacious bathrooms, although many do have them. If you do return please ask us for details. This ground floor bedroom , the Easedale, is itself quite large with 6 ft bed, and although it does have one of the smaller bathrooms in the hotel it has a full sized and recently installed whirlpool bath albeit in an arched alcove. The space behind the picture is actually the access to the bathroom stop taps and we are sorry to hear that you felt it further detracted from the bathroom.
I would like to take this opportunity to assure you that we do strive to keep up with guests’ expectations and also, regarding value, we try to keep our prices at a level commensurate with the rooms and services we offer as a three star hotel in such a location. We have had some 100,000 visitors to Lancrigg over the last 25 years many of whom do return again and again.
My apologies again for these failures I hope that since you found so many excellent and enjoyable aspects at Lancrigg, we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back to Lancrigg soon and please contact me personally so that I can assist in booking your stay.
Yours Sincerely, Robert Whittington and team

We have stayed in this hotel for six nights. All the rooms in Lancrigg are individually decorated and some have stunning views on the valley. There is a cozy lounge with log fire and a beautiful dining room, both with views on the valley. The hotel staff is very kind and thoughtful and they will do anything to make your stay as pleasant as can be. We have very fond memories of the time we arrived in the hotel after a long walk outside in the cold. The log fire was just put on and we enjoyed our really nice hot chocolate while warming up by the fire.

The Green Valley restaurant is part of the small hotel Lancrigg, but it’s open for everyone. Before we arrived we thought about having some dinners outdoors, but after seeing (and eating) we decided to stay there for dinner every evening. It was so hard to choose what to eat, that we needed all of our evenings to try it all, anyway. All of the dishes are fabulous!
The dishes are vegetarian, but most of them are also suitable for vegans (or can be adjusted). They have a great selection of vegetarian organic wines and also organic liqueurs.

We will definitely return here for another holiday!

Dear moniquezb
Thank you for your great review and photographs, and myself and the team are delighted that you had such an enjoyable stay and appreciated the efforts we put in. It is great to hear that you enjpyed the food so much that you ate at Lancrigg every night of your stay too. We enjoyed showing round the rooms in advance of your next stay and do contact me personally when you book so that I can welcome you back with a hot chocolate or glass of wine by the log fire.
Best Wishes, Robert Whittington and team

This place is just superb. Lovely accommodation. We stayed in Kitty Crag which is a house which forms an annexe to the hotel. The room was beautifully appointed with a full size en suite bathroom (not your usual shower/wc cupboard) and huge bed, with a lovely lounge. The hospitality of the owners, friendly and helpful staff, not to mention the great food in the dining room were all second to none. it makes such a refreshing change for a veggie to be spoilt for choice.

My wife booked a last minute break at Lancrigg. Not being vegetarians we were unsure what we'd find, but everything was wonderful. A great location, lovely accommodation, attentive staff and the food was excellent. A very restful place, where you can really get away from the "hurly-burly" of the modern world. We will return ASAP.

Our first visit, and we were hoping for seven days of real peace & quiet away from the madness that is London (our home town). It is difficult not to sound 'over the top' with this but as vegetarians, the Lancrigg was heaven on earth. Comfortable room (Azelea), wonderful food, lovely staff and all in one of the most beautiful places on earth. Over seven nights we did not exhaust the menu, the wine list was very good and they even served interesting beers! And yes, it is indeed peaceful and quiet. It really does not get much better than this.
