stayed on a Friday/Saturday via red letter day we had room 20 which was clean and in excellent condition we had the three course evening meal £39.50 each we both enjoyed all three courses the atmosphere is very quiet in the hotel breakfast plenty of variety my only complaint there cooked breakfast as no beans I would return on a red letter day but I don't feel the cost they charge are good value but that's the lakes for you
one important point is All the staff were Fantastic

The hotel is set in its own grounds alongside a small river in the village of Grasmere. We stayed for one night at the start of June in a suite. The room was very nice and had all the ameneties you would expect but some of the detais in the room/balcony were lacking considering the costs per night. The balcony over looked the river and had some excellent views away from the hotel however the balcont itself looked like it had not been cleaned in a long while and some of the wood holding the glass in place on the bathroom window had fallen out and was laying on the roof.

The food in the restaurant was superb and well worth the money, the restaurant is not very busy and offers a quiet intermate feel with excellent views out onto the gardens.

We usedthe spa facilities on the afternoon we arrived. The facilities are pesented very nicely however for the size of hotel they are a little small with only 4 heat beds avaliable to use if you are not in the sauna, small jaquzzzi or aroma room. The aroma room for me was a waste of space basically a room with a very subtle smell personally I could not see the point.

The hotel is very nice overall but not sure it is worth the price. I will trying an alternative next time I am in the Lakes.

The room (24) was pretty small for the price, the bathroom due to the room location had a sloping roof and the extractor above the bath, which was pretty unnerving having electric above water. Some signs of wear and botch repairs to the shower which within itself was pretty poor.
The room was ok the bed nice, the river view was lovely sadly the fell views had been blocked out by the trees. A small gripe was that when relaxing on the balcony we found it off putting been in full view of the main bridge and the passing 599 & 555 every 20 minutes not ideal for a relaxing time. The balcony itself was filthy, full of old cobwebs and moss and obviously had not been cleaned in a long time. Overall we have had a better room in a £85 a night B&B in the Lakes with similar views minus the traffic.

We didn’t dine here as we felt we didn’t have the attire and we are not really into fine dining but the breakfasts where good and set us up for the day, only niggle was that we lost our breakfast table the 2nd morning (you keep the same table for dining and breakfast throughout your stay) which was odd as they then moved (more like pointed to the table) us to someone else’s table who turned up which made things awkward for us. They also forgot my coffee but the whole experience was just so impersonal and quite, the food was great and the views nice but the impersonal service let it down.

The service was either excellent or bordering on rude. The two chaps on reception were very pleasant whilst remaining professional but the women on reception, one I forget her name was so sharp it boarded on rude. It seemed to us that some staff within the hotel very much focus on who they think will spend the cash with the hotel but others are given a 2nd rate service, The example of this was the Iron Lady who couldn’t do enough for those dining yet hardly spoke to others not.

The Spa was nice, we had a good time relaxing and watching the fells and rabbits. It was quite peaceful and quite when we visited but can imagine it getting busy through poor weather or late in the day once people return.

We wouldn’t return though we had a relaxing time but for the price paid I expected more maybe that’s just me.
