“avoid if you want luxury”
Reviewed February 21, 2013

The staff were friendly in this hotel, and breakfast was lovely. The building, however, was looking rather 'tired'. A lick of paint wouldn't do any harm, the carpet was very worn in places, and windows were clearly very old. Fine for a few days but nothing special.

We stayed at the Red Lion 15th/16th Feb, in the Ruskin Suite. It was wonderful. On arrival the reception was warm and friendly. The staff were polite, smiling and proffessinal in every way. The food in the Courtyard restaurant was superb and a credit to the chef and kitchen staff. The breakfast was perfect. We have no problems in recommending the Red Lion to anyone infact have raved about it to my parents and friends all day today, as we spoke on the phone about our wk/end. The Hotel evening lounge singer was very good, just lovely after dining. The village itself is a treat and walking by Grasmere breathtaking.

Having just spent four days/three nights at the Red Lion Hotel, I can report that it is one of the most comfortable and welcoming country hotels I have stayed in. The rooms were spotlessly clean and comfortable, the staff most helpful and friendly and the food was out of this world! The chef is remarkably talented-an imaginative menu and everything perfectly cooked and served-fine dining at its best! If you are in the Lakes...this is the place to stay.

Room Tip: Go for the better rooms if you can stretch the budget!

We have stayed here before it is a lovely hotel right in the heart of Grasmere. The staff are lovely and helpful the restaurant is very good. Hotel a little tired but well worth staying for a few days in the beautiful Lake District. There is a lovely walk right round the lake, lovely little shops to wander into and lovely places to eat.

A very good location in a neat, quiet village that is ideal for a restful weekend. The hotel reflects this. The staff are friendly and the bedroom was very good We dined in the bar each night and the food was excellent. Breakfast was very good, so we were well provided for. Parking could be a problem at peak times, but other reviews indicate that the staff have been helpful when there has been a problem. We would go back to this hotel.

This Hotel is perfectly located in the pretty village, the food in both the pub next door and the hotel is excellent but a bit pricey.Excellent selection of Real Ales and the Breakfast was also plentiful and nice.

Car parking can be a nightmare although we managed to park at the front and side of the Hotel the 2 nights we were there.Hotel very clean and relaxing in the large lounge conservatory area.Would stay again

We arrived at the hotel around 14:30 and welcomed by lovely reception staff who explained everything we needed to know and also provided copies of maps for the different mountains close to the hotel. We were also asked if we had a parking space as they are limited as they would have found somewhere near to park within the village.

The room was very big, comfortable and clean. I was also happy with how warm it was in the room as it was very cold outside. There is a trouser press provided in the rooms and if needed they will provide an iron and ironing board.

The breakfast was very nice and the staff who served me and my partner were very friendly and helpful. There is a great selection of food.
