“A home from home”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 17, 2012

Me and my boyfriend along with a few of our friends booked this stay a couple of months ago from groupon. We arrived at the hotel and though it seemed quite limited on parking from first glance, but there are plenty of other places to park.

Check in: Brilliant, experienced, lovely friendly staff and from the first feel you get when you walk in, its the perfect little country retreit.

The room: It's one of them, you either think this is going to be lovely or really bad, but I can tell you, I was so happy with the room we had, it was imaculate. The en-suite was great and the little ameneties within the room were really thoughtful and we were really impressed.

Location: Amazing, its so nice not to be in the city and just have all the hills and countryside to look at. The local shops were very authentic too and to my suprise, dogs were allowed in the shops and pubs which just shows you how relaxing this wonderful village is. I loved the fact that when we walked to the shops, all of the local jobs were advertised on the door and in shop windows. Here you can feel a great sense of community and I'll be honest, I didnt want to come home.

Staff: I could not fault the staff at all, the manager of the hotel was not sitting in a back office while everybody else was doing the work, he was hands on, everywhere, cutting the hedge one min and then on reception the next, such a great, considerate and knowledgeable guy a true credit to the hotel chain. The staff seemed to all get on really well and enjoyed what they were doing, nothing was too much trouble.

Overall we will be back again from Liverpool, thankyou for a great time!

We stayed on a two day DB&B basis. Location ideal for the very pleasant village of Grasmere. Parked up early and left the car there for the weekend.
In all areas we saw, the hotel was in excellent condition.
Our room (303) was small but in excellent condition. We had a small balcony with very nice views of the village and hills. Bed comfortable and we slept well on both nights.
Food was straight forwards in style, nicely presented and huge portions. Staff all very pleasant.
We felt the dining room lacked a little character as did the Lamb pub.
Over all a very good 3 star hotel and a great base for the area - we'd certainly look to go back there when visiting the area again.

Room Tip: Unless you have a club room, try to get a room on the third floor with a balcony

We have stayed at this hotel a few times and everytime has been excellent. Staff are excellent, food is lovely and the rooms are nice. Its a great starting point for a number of walks and would recommend to anyone. The lounge area is relaxing and warm. We had a day of rain so sat in there and I felt like I was at home. The only issue I would say is the parking. Would go back to the Red Lion everytime.

We booked a two night dinner, bed and breakfast package at the Red Lion in April 2012 having stayed there previously in April 2011. Its location right in the heart of Grasmere is a major plus, although a minus is the rather limited on site parking for guests which is not really compatible with the room rate. If you are on a late check in be prepared for no room in the hotel car park for your car. Nevertheless the hotel more than makes up for this with its distinctly homely character and charm. The food was very good and the staff were very helpful and accommodating. We were upgraded to a suite on our arrival with a great view of the local landscape. Everything was very clean with presented as highly comfortable accommodation. A Grasmere gem!

Room Tip: The suites are great

We had a special deal for this lovely hotel! We met up with my daughter and her partner here for a couple of nights..
Staff were very friendly and helpful , room was quite spacious with super king size bed (2 singles zipped together) very clean ,the bathroom was sparkling....it did say on the website that most rooms had spa baths but ours didnt though my daughters room did--but her bathroom was also older than ours..but the bedroom was around the same size.
There is swimming pool at the hotel but we didnt get to see it!
The food looked a tad expensive for us but we found the Hotel over the road Ash Cottage served lovely food at a good price....homemade lasangne £9
The hotel has limited parking and we had to park over the road both nights, not that it was a problem...
The breakfast was ok--great selection of continental..even had marmite for my daughters partners toast so he was a happy bunny!
The cooked breakfast was average, one slice of bacon , sausage, egg, black pudding, mushrooms, hash browns, fried bread and beans..it was cooked better the second morning, thebacon wasnt over done!

Would definatly return here-was a good base for touring round the area..

The hotel was very good for a three star hotel, in a wonderful location in the heart of the village, the staff were very helpful and polite, the only disappointment is that they allow pets to stay iin the bedrooms! Which I could hardly believe. On our second day at the hotel, which was the 26th march, two dogs came bounding through the doors on the first floor landing and knocked a middle aged man down, he was obviously hurt and in some distress, I saw at least 8 dogs going up to bedrooms with their owners! I personally think is poor of the hotel management to allow this practice, I would be reluctant to use another Best Western Hotel or to recommend them after this, many people, myself included have allergies connected to animals, do you charge the full rate for pets!
