We have just returned from a seven night stay at this great guest house in a wonderful location. We stayed four nights in Room 2 and 3 nights in Room 1, and loved them both. Chris and Mariea made us so welcome. We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfasts and evening meals (we ate in for three of the evenings). Mariea will cater willingly for special diets, and created delicious vegan meals for me. My husband thought his non-vegan meals were lovely as well. When we did our Fell walking, Mariea supplied us with great packed lunches.

Everything was spotlessly clean, lovely friendly atmosphere, and absolutely loads of information about the area. Great being able to park your car right outside, as well. What more could you want.

We have just returned from a 3 month holiday in Europe, staying in over 30 B&Bs, hotels and apartments throughout the UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Greece & Turkey. We are experienced travellers and I believe we have realistic expectations in relation to customer service – we have travelled in Europe on eight occasions.

We chose to stay at the Riversdale Guest House in early March on the basis of recommendations in Trip Advisor. Unfortunately the only unpleasant experience with staff or management at any of the 30 establishments that we stayed at during our holiday was at Riversdale. Without going into details of the incident that caused our displeasure, we found that contrary to opinions expressed in Trip Advisor, the proprietors were rigid in both personality and hospitality skills, operating the B&B like a boarding school rather than a welcoming & hospitable guest house.

Similarly, their breakfasts - compared to others that we stayed at in the UK - were uninspired & pedestrian! The bed was comfortable and the premises clean but Fawlty Towers comes to mind whenever we think back to our two nights at Riversdale. We could not recommend it as a relaxed and welcoming B&B.

We are sorry that these guests did not enjoy their two nights here, but remain committed to providing the very high standards of care, quality and service that every other one of our guests have come to appreciate and enjoy.

This was our second visit to Riversdale, introducing some very good friends to this jewel in the Lakes. Again we would recommend it from every aspect, extremely well appointed with every comfort, our hosts friendly and very helpful, excellent food, all of which contributed to a most enjoyable and relaxing stay. I have no doubt we shall be returning again.
We were even lucky and blessed with perfect weather, with the
Lake District at it's breathtaking best.

Excellent, comfortable B&B - Chris & Mariea are friendly and helpful. Our room (Room 2) was light and airey with views of the hills. Breakfast was ample - I can recommend the scrambled egg and smoked salmon. The location is great for walking - from a walk round the lake or up and over Helvellyn - it is a beautiful spot. We ate out every evening - there are plenty of eateries within walking distance (and tea rooms) - whilst other guests said they enjoyed the evening meals offered at the B&B. Would definitely visit again.

We stayed at the riversdale for two nights over easter this year, i can honestly say this is the the best place to stay for the east/south lakes area.
Chris and mariea are warm and friendly hosts, the breakfast menu is vast and there is nothing thats too much trouble, the rooms are clean, well equipped, warm and have great views!
The accomodation is a matter of a few minutes walk to the village centre, and a great base for hill walking.
We shall return, of that there is no question.

In the village i would not recommend eating at the lamb inn, the food is all straight out of the freezer, is very bland and very expensive, we had a far superior meal at the dove and olive branch, local FRESH produce very well cooked and presented (the fleetwood haddock and homemade chips was brilliant)
The best place for a drink, a very relaxed place, is tweedies, a small hideaway down the side of the red lion hotel, it has great barstaff, and a vast selection of cask beers, many i`d never heard of, but they all tasted spot on!!

If you are looking for somewhere to stay in Grasmere to explore or walk in the Lakes then Riversdale Guest House is an excellent Bed & Breakfast.

It is situated a short distance from the centre of the village with everything you need for an enjoyable stay, restaurants and shops are all within easy walking distance. We have stayed at Riversdale many times using its central location for walking in the fells. The rooms are modern, clean and furnished to a high standard.

Chris & Mariea are always welcoming and make you feel at home, delicious breakfasts are prepared using local produce. I would not hesitate to recommend it and have done so to other people wishing to stay in the Lakes who certainly have not been disappointed.

Riversdale is an excellent place to stay to enjoy Grasmere and its surroundings, particularly if you are looking for a restful break away from it all.

We first stayed at Riversdale in 2004 for a long weekend, but enjoyed the hospitality and surroundings so much that we returned in 2005 for a week long break, and have done the same each year since.

Mariea and Chris are great hosts who make you feel very welcome. They are always on hand if you need anything, but are also happy for you to come and go as you please. This helps to make Riversdale a real home-from-home.

The accommodation is well decorated and equipped, and is very welcoming after a day out on the fells.

Last but not least, Mariea is an excellent cook! Her breakfasts are a great way to start the day, and we also normally book for evening meals as well.

As you can do doubt gather, we would strongly recommend Riversdale to anyone who was looking for a quiet Guest House in the heart of the Lake District!
