Owner description: Attached to Dove Cottage, The Wordsworth Museum lets visitors discover Wordsworth's amazing life and what inspired and influenced him. Orphaned as a child, he attended Cambridge University then went on a walking trip across Europe during the French Revolution. He returned to England, determined to change English literature by writing in language that everyone could understand and about subjects that would outrage the establishment. Displays include pictures, letters, personal possessions and original manuscripts, written in his own hand, showing how he amended and re-wrote his work, striving for the perfect expression of his ideas - which still are relevant today.

“Worth the visit”
Reviewed August 8, 2013

If you're into poetry or English literature or not, its still worth a visit. You can visit the house and museum within a couple of hours. It has a tiny little garden which is excellent in perfect weather. The trip includes Dove cottage, home to the Wordsworth family, where they've kept everything intact from their times.

A must visit if in the area.

I am not an English major nor into poetry, yet I found it interesting. The curator is fantastic. The docents were excellent.

“A Poets Delight”
Reviewed May 22, 2013

We visited Dove Cottage for the first time on our recent visit to the Lakes and we both wished we had visited it earlier. Having learnt about Wordsworth at school many years ago it was really interesting to see where he had lived and see many of his possessions. The museum also brought many aspects of his life and works to life, if you are not careful time will run away from you as you will be cought up in the wonders of this poets works.
