Recommended length of visit: 2-3 hours
Owner description: Attached to Dove Cottage, The Wordsworth Museum lets visitors discover Wordsworth's amazing life and what inspired and influenced him. Orphaned as a child, he attended Cambridge University then went on a walking trip across Europe during the French Revolution. He returned to England, determined to change English literature by writing in language that everyone could understand and about subjects that would outrage the establishment. Displays include pictures, letters, personal possessions and original manuscripts, written in his own hand, showing how he amended and re-wrote his work, striving for the perfect expression of his ideas - which still are relevant today.

“Wonderful guide”

Spent a really interesting wet afternoon at the Wordsworth Museum and Dove Cottage. We had an excellent young guide who was so interesting and brought Dove Cottage alive for us. We loved the Museum which is interactive and full of information

“Beautiful place to see”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 18, 2012

Beautiful old cottages and lovely to see the history of the area. It as a little pricey for what it was but I appreciate it's not cheap to keep these attractions open. Really enjoyed it, got lots of nice photos and had a lovely bowl of soup in the cafe afterwards.

The guide was fabulous so passionate about William Wordsworth, his work and his family and friends. You will learn a lot in a short time. Have fun writing a letter with a quill. The staff will post it for you.

“Excellent Visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 11, 2012

Another great visit had to the museum. Thoroughly enjoyed the 'new' documents on display and the staff were even friendly this time around (hard to believe). Think I saw more this time than last too, which is always nice on a second visit. Well worth it if you are remotely interested in Wordsworth.

Eveyrthing was so well displayed and accessable. Really gave greater insight to this great pet's life. The staff were very helpful. Thank-you.
Well worth the money. Only sorry I didn't have more time to spend reading everything. Will definately come back some time.
