“Great location”
Reviewed June 22, 2013

From the moment we arrived which was for one night to when we left the staff were excellent. Our room was not ready but the receptionist ask for my mobile so she could ring me when it was ready. Now that is service. The whole hotel and grounds are breathe taking. It was lovely to just sit in the conservatory and watch the rabbits running around the grounds. I fell in love with the room as soon as I saw it. We had a lovely view from our window even though we were in the front. We used the swimming pool while we there. Breakfast was nice. We ate in the Dove Bistro next door which is also part of the hotel and the food there was excellent. There is plenty of parking and there is nice walk along the river. You are only 10 mins walk from Dove cottage.

We will definitely be back and hopefully for a bit longer this time.

Room Tip: I think any room would suffice

We stayed here as my friend was getting married in Grasmere and had the reception at The Wordsworth Hotel.

The room was bigger than expected and the bed very vet comfy, as well as massive. The room was quiet even though it was at the front of the hotel.

The food at the meal the night before the wedding and the reception was exceptional and the service quick and effortless. Breakfast was also great, they delivered it to the bride's suite for the bride, bridesmaids & mother of the bride and although they could not get the bride's order correct (they kept including the granola even though she asked for it to left off as she is gluten intolerant).

The hotel itself is lovely and had a traditional feel to it, the car park is much bigger than I was expecting which is great as the hotel is right on the main road so I was concerned we would be struggling for parking.

Overall I was impressed with the hotel and would recommend it for both a vacation and as a wedding venue.

Booked a 2nights stay through secret escapes to celebrate our 53rd wedding anniversary. The hotel upgraded us, arranged for flowers and champagne upon arrival all for a reasonable extra cost. The staff could not have been more welcoming and helpful for the duration of or stay. Our room overlooked the gardens and was delightfully furnished with new modern furniture, providing a relaxing atmosphere.
The food in both the Signature Restaurant and the Dove Bistro was substantial, well prepared and presented - our compliments to the Chefs and serving staff. The only comment I would add is that although the hotel ask that 'jackets should be worn in the evening when dining' many residents failed to do so. I know this is a modern trend and it is difficult for the hotel to monitor, however it was apparent that most ladies had made an effort, unfortunately it was the 'gents' who let them down.
The
The Hotel is set in lovely grounds, although in the heart of Grasmere. For those interested in walking there is immediate access to the fells from the hotel. Equally it is ideally situated for car/bus tours to other Lakeland towns.
The hotel truly deserves its 4* rating. Would we return - definitely.

Can't rate this hotel highly enough. During a booking a mistake on both parts was dealt with professionally and swiftly. Rooms where really good with a great view over the mountains. The gardens in the hotel and public rooms where stunning - the weather helped and it was lovely to come back after steaming up Helvellyn to afternoon tea in the garden!

Food - stunning. Well thought out with lot's of local provenance throughout the menu which is great to see. Presentation spot, clearly see why they have rosettes - bit harder and it could easily be stars! Service was spot on a great attentive team.

Pool and facilities are great - bit weird having to walk around through a corridor to get to the sauna but it's an old building.

Go, highly recommended, even if you are passing try the food.

we booked this hotel via 'Secret Escapes' as a birthday treat weekend away. it was a lovely hotel our tariff included dinner on the first night which was really good. Restaurant was very nice, staff were friendly and attentive. Food choices were good. Presentation was more on the 'Fine dining' side so don't expect a 'plate full' Our only disappointment is that even though the hotel and restaurant was at the higher end of the price range they still allow diners into the restaurant in 'jeans'. When will we go back to 'dressing for dinner' and take pride in getting dressed to enjoy a good meal? Why do jeans have to be acceptable? We did not have time to use the Spa facilities but they looked 'compact' Breakfast on both mornings was very good and service was attentive although a little slow on Sunday when the restaurant was full. we would go back again, village is beautiful and not as busy as other parts of the Lake District

We stayed 3 nights on half board room 28, a Grasmere Village View room. It is a good size room with a very comfortable king size bed. The bathroom is excellent. However, the bedroom was let down by a lot of creaky and loose floor boards (need fixing) and the carpet had seen better days (clean or replace). Some ceiling lights need refixing. The signature restaurant is very pleasant although the tables are a bit on the small size. The breakfasts are fine. The evening meals were generally quite good but the presentations were often somewhat over elaborated. The waiter service on the first two days was good but the final evening it was disappointing in comparison ( we mentioned this to staff member Geraldine). Our final breakfast experience was poor. There didn't appear to be any one in charge or supervising the staff. When we chose our table we became "invisible" to all the staff for ages until we stopped a waiter and said" we have not been served yet". The two girls in charge of the tea, coffee and toast seemed to be very disorganised. We had to again complain to get served and when the toast arrived some of it was burnt. This also happened to two people at the next table to us. Other people close by also had problems with service. We also asked for more toast but it never arrived. We did not use the spar facilities so we are unable to comment. The hotel lounges are very nice but the corridors , landings and stairs areas would benefit from some improvement attention. We do not understand why there is a lack of handrails on the stairs. Overall, there is a need for more attention to detail in parts of the hotel and the restaurant waiters need more effective supervision in our experience.

Dear Sam1942, Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel, further to your recent stay with us. It is important that we understand how our guests enjoy their experience with us. I did apologise to you whilst you were here regarding your perception of service on your final night with us and I did liaise with our restaurant manager as soon as I had spoken to you. On the whole our clients seemed to enjoy the evening and both Will and I understood from our perspective that the evening had gone well. Notwithstanding this, you felt differently and I am so sorry, because we work to ensure everyone enjoys their time with us. With regards to breakfast, I can again only apologise and assure you that we have communicated your feedback with the whole team and we will use it to improve our performance if we can. I do hope you will be not be dissuaded from visiting us again - I would look forward to welcoming you back. With kindest regards, Geraldine. Geraldine McKay, General Manager.

Our ruby wedding anniversary celebration with friends was most enjoyable helped by amazing weather for the beginning of JUNE. The staff are extremely attentive, the food is second to none. We were a little disappointed with our room as it was small and only had a view of the decorators working on an outbuilding, despite our family asking for an upgrade. Beware of room 26 if you require a view of the village or hills or anything!! We will be back though....thanks.
