Lovely little church with a really interesting history. The BOSS said the graveyard was really great with lots of fascinating headstones. Well worth a visit.

“Interesting Interior”
Reviewed October 12, 2013

From the outside, the church looks tired and drab - but the inside is most interesting with a two-tiered arcade supporting the roof timbers rather than the roof.
There are some fine Henry Holiday stained glass windows; in particular, the Resurrection of Lazarus, which, admittedly, needs to be carefully studied to avoid misinterpretation !!
Worth a visit, apart from the obvious Wordsworth connection.

“St Oswald's Church in Grasmere - unforgettable”
Reviewed September 22, 2013

A haven of peace and tranquility in the middle of Grasmere - iconic Lakeland village and usually quite to very busy with tourists in the high season. Step back in time and away from the crowds , wander round and listen to the little river running nearby .You will take away some special memories of the Lake District

“Great setting, very historical and Wordsworth graves”
Reviewed September 20, 2013

This church and its courtyard and cemetery are open to all. Depending on the time of day and the number of tourists it is a nice quiet place to reflect and know that you are in a church attended by William Wordsworth and his family. The church has a deep history which is worth reading about.

“Some fund-raising needed!”
Reviewed September 19, 2013

In August 2013 part of the churchyard beneath the church tower was fenced off. There was a notice fixed there warning of falling masonry. It's a great church in a very busy tourist centre but parts of it seem to have fallen into disrepair. The good news is that a visitor can add to church funds by buying postcards, guide books, greetings cards and so on in the church or by leaving a donation. From the outside this church looks squat and grey but on the inside it has whitewashed walls and a rugged style of construction which was clearly built to last. I think this church preserves the character of Grasmere because much else there is either a cafe or a gift shop.
