I visited here on my own and was made most welcome. I had soup and a sandwich, the most delicious soup I have had. It is definitely worth a visit!

Met family for mid morning snack. Opted for the "famous lemon meringue pie" which my husband and I shared, as we had been warned it was a large portion. The other family members had porridge. The café is relaxed with a retro feel - wooden floors, paper lanterns and chandeliers. The quirky waiter, with tattooed arms, speaks abruptly, naming every item he puts on the table! Food was delicious. My tea came with a china tea cup and saucer. Individual. Deserves its good reputation.

We were lucky enough to be staying in the gorgeous Baldry's cottage, which meant we 'accidentally' found ourselves in here every day (bar one...which I feel a little unsettled about!). We really were never disappointed with any aspect of this little gem. We tried everything - breakfast, lunch, cake, just drinks, and we were impressed by everything. Breakfasts were great value, whatever you had - full English came with a round of toast (with jam/marmalade) which came out separately making it a nice leisurely brekkie rather than an overwhelming amount of food all at once. The 'smaller' items were just as impressive with two of us having porridge/scrambled eggs on toast - both substantial and delicious. The lunches were equally scrummy and good value for money given the quality and quantity. Cakes...well, what can I say - absolutely lovely. Lemon meringue has earnt its reputation and the crumble is also amazing (as was everything to be fair). The range of drinks is great and means you could happily spend a rainy afternoon cosied up in Baldry's.
A mention has to also go to the staff who were attentive, helpful and happy - always adding to the positive experience. We never had to struggle up the stairs with the buggy as someone always appeared to help and nothing was ever too much trouble. The main guy in there often looked after us and is a real asset to the tearoom - he definitely added to the experience by taking time to talk to us and have a bit of a laugh, despite always being rushed off his feet!
All in all, a great little place which is worlds ahead of any other in the area. Loved it and already want to go back again!
Oh, and the cottage was just lovely - perfect for our little holiday. And Alison's delicious lamb casserole was worth every penny and great to come home to after a day out. Perfection!

We have been visiting Baldry's for years. You will struggle to find a better cafe in Grasmere. On our most recent visit we were reminded that the breakfasts are particular good; good to know if you are staying locally and have to pay for breakfast The staff are friendly and attentive and are extremely keen to make sure you get exactly what you want

Maybe we got them on an off day but took a long time to come and take the order- although only 2 other tables occupied. Inefficient waitress who had to ask several times about a very straightforward breakfast order. 3 breakfasts arrived but the 4th did not get served until everyone else had eaten theirs.... And to top it off the last breakfast order was wrong- although decided just to eat it and leave. Food was just about average- if I was being generous. Would not return.
