We were welcomed in with a smile and made to feel comfortable immediately. Tearoom does great cakes! Evening meal was delicious (though a bit pricy)
This is the less touristy side of Coniston water, and a short walk to beautiful bluebell woods and the lake is just at the bottom of the garden. A little overpriced but with high standards.

A group of friends spent a long weekend at this beautiful cottage
The place itself was spotless and clean, the beds were comfortable and resting and the seating area was well laid out with fantastic panoramic views as this was on the 1st foor. Patio doors lead out across a small grassy area and on to Conison water..
The owners greeted us on arrival with home made scones, cakes and jam and the accomodation was already heated for our arrival, which was very welcome from a cold and windy afteroon.
Everything is supplid, from tea towels to washing up liquid, just ring yourself, food and dink.

Beautifully set overlooking Coniston water, the Bank Ground Farm was a very welcoming place. The buildings are careworn and speak of many years of happy use. The staff here were just charming, and the sense of continuity of family ownership very strong. It was very comforting to stay in such a nice, low-key place with a good connection to the land and the past. We met guests who had been coming for multiple generations, and it was very cool to see such a manifestation of the history of the place. Breakfast was utterly stellar and I still have fond memories of the fantastic mushrooms. Our room had beautiful views and was quite spacious, a feature I found relatively uncommon during our trip in England. It's a sweet place! :)

Have just returned from a weeks stay at the Barn where 26 Adults, 2 teenagers, 2 children, 2 toddlers and 2 babies spent time at the Barn over the week to celebrate my 30th birthday. We had a fantastic time. A stunning location overlooking the lake and the Old man of Coniston. The Barn was not quite ready for us to check in earlier on arrival so we were encouraged to have tea and coffee in the tearoom whilst we waited. We were welcomed by complimentary homemade scones, delicious homemade jam and fresh cream after being shown around the barn. 3 spacious double rooms on the ground floor, a large living dining and kitchen in the middle of the barn which is huge with enough comfy sofas for all (the website photos dont do it justice), 2 large family rooms and a large double on the top floor. The double beds are v spacious and larger than the average double. Jonathon and his wife were extremley helpful with any minor problems or queries we had e.g. getting the sound on the DVD player to work. Jonathon was also a great contact via email prior to our stay answering the many queries we had. We found a very short walk for the children down to the lake and for the older ones we walked up the steep hill through the woods and back. We mainly drove to places e.g. Coniston centre, Tarn Hows, Ambleside and Windermere as we did not want walk on the roads with the children. We had a BBQ and enjoyed it very much. Free Wifi available too. Overall a fabulous stay perfect for gatherings with family and friends. Did not want to leave. Farewell Bankground, we will be back.

Lovely B&B in large old converted farmhouse complex, really friendly, high quality bedrooms with tasteful en-suite facilities, some with particularly fine views over Coniston & towards the Old Man & Wetherlam, lovely breakfast, nice touches like bowls of fresh fruit around in several places to help yourself from. Well-kept gardens, self-catering accommodation too, tea-rooms during the day. Only downside - very pricey (we paid £130 for a double room, admittedly on a Friday night). Great for a treat, too much for regular visits!

Room Tip: Ask for one overlooking the lake - maybe even the corner room on the NW corner with windows on 2 sid...

I echo the other good reviews. I loved the Swallows and Amazons connection. The farmhouse is a classic rambling structure with older style furnishings, but everything well maintained and the bathroom fittings definitely modern. The whole property is in excellent order and the owners/hosts are lovely people. We had a wonderful time and thoroughly recommend it.

This time our family stayed with another in The Stables. Life on a farm in a magical location ticked on around us as before and co-owner Jonathon was as attentive and friendly as usual including super-speedy and empathetic responses to a few minor issues we had on our arrival (faulty light bulb etc.) and received and unpacked our Tesco order as we battled up the M6.

In the short week we were there we couldn't have packed in more with a 2 yro, 1 yro, and 4 mth old in tow. Climbed The Old Man, Haverthwaite to Ambleside steam railway and boat trip, walk around Coniston Lake, lunch at Chesters and The Bluebird Cafe (both excellent if not edging towards pricey), walked the slopes of the old man and finished with a pint of locally brewed Bluebird Ale (delicious after a decent stroll), and tackled the trails of Grizedale Forest (right on the back door). Also managed a quick swim at the Langdale Spa; excellent for children. All this proving again that Bank Ground continues to be an excellent base for families to explore the locality.

All the activities were great but the thing that makes this place special is the view from the cottages across the lake to the mountains. The position of the building is perfect. Dining with family and friends with the mountainous backdrop is perfect. So much so, and inspired by the antics of another guest, the adults couldn't resist a mid-September swim in the lake. Refreshing!

You won't be surprised to read we will be visiting this mystical location again.

Room Tip: The top floor of The Stables has a huge four poster bed which is very comfortable. There are also wo...
