The hotel is situated on the lake a short walk from coniston. The hotel is well kept with friendly staff. We booked bed and breakfast and the breakfast is has something for everyone and a great start to the day. We didn't eat in the evening but the menu looked good.

My wife and I stayed here for a short break. The waether wasn't great but the friendliness of the staff and quality of the meals more than made up for it.
A lovely hotel in the Lake District, it sits on the banks of Coniston water and has its own jetty. The restaurant looks out over "The Old Man of Coniston" which, on this occasion, was covered in snow. The room we had looked out over the gardens to the water which, I imagine, on a good day would be an excellent view.
The hotel is over 100 years old and could do with some refurbishment. Our room was cold at times as the heating seemed to switch off in the evening for some reason. One quibble I had was with the double bed. It seemed to be two singles pushed together, slightly uncomfortable when trying to sleep.
The bar area was lovely and warm and the seating comfortable. It also had free Wifi, all you had to do was ask for the password.
The dining room staff were very attentive without being intrusive and the breaks between courses were just right, neither too long nor too short. The meals were lovely; tasty and satisfying. If you do visit try the Thunder and Lightening ice cream!!!

A hotel we would definitely visit again.

We've just come back from a great long weekend at this hotel. All the staff were very friendly and helplful (especially when we had to alter our booking from October). Booked through Buyagift.com and were very pleased with our choice. Food was fantastic, had a meal the first night which was lovely and very filling; breakfasts were plentiful. Room was great, very spacious, lovely view and we could bring our dog (we had room 5). Just a short walk to the town with various nice pubs to drink and eat. Some great walks straight from the hotel made out stay perfect. Shame the weather couldn't have been better, we got rained on, snowed on, hailed on and nearly blown off the Old Man! Can't wait to go back again in the summer.

Great location, room 21 has good views over mountains.
Shame about the leaking window and damp mould spots around window and also the velux window frame in the bathroom, however this didn't take away from the stay at the hotel and we would go back again.
Breakfast was lovely and staff were friendly. Happy days!
Would recommend the Sun Inn in the village for food, and nice atmosphere.

My husband and I stayed here for a 2 night break. I booked on laterooms and got a great deal of £60 per night per room B&B. The hotel is located on the outskirts of Coniston village, and only a 10min walk into the village where there are quite a few lovely pubs. Our room was spacious (room 5) and had great views across the gardens and lake. The room was very clean (as was all of the hotel), and the ensuite bathroom was very modern and clean. Breakfast very good and the food was of very good quality. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We didn't eat dinner, as we walked into the village at night for a few drinks and food. The restaurant did have amazing views of "The Old Man," but it didn't seem as if it would be a warm and inviting place to dine in the eveining as the decor is very white and due to this lacks warmth. The only thing missing in this hotel is a lovely roaring fire in the communal areas. We did enjoy staying in this hotel.

Wedding - 1st November 2011

We had been planning our wedding in the Lake District and were recommended to come here for the entire event. We began our planning with the wonderful Laura earlier in the year and her constant reassurance was wonderful and subsequently validated! Advice about the food tastings, music, timings etc. were always available and welcome. Even when there were potential issues, these were ironed out virtually before they arose!

With the exception of the Groom and his immmediate party, all the guests arrived the day before and were made to feel extremely welcome - and visiting peaceful Coniston village was really nice for everyone.

On the day itself, Laura, Nick and the team were always available but never intrusive. Issues were sorted without us having to think about it, named contacts made available etc. We were so impressed with the professionalism!

For fun, we'd booked a lake trip for all the guests on the Coniston Launch for after the ceremony and before dinner. Given that it was early November, the weather could have been atrocious but was in fact glorious - so we heartily recommend the water trip too, especially when there are racing trials on and champagne on tap...

After the ceremony and excellent dinner (including possibly the best soup we'd all ever tasted), we were given a lovely suite in a separate part of the hotel. Tthe next morning we all reconvened for breakfast before everyone set off in a leisurely manner.

We have every confidence in recommending this hotel as a venue for an entire Wedding, or for a party post-service elsewhere. We had a truly remarkable, wonderful time and just as importantly to us, all of our guests had a brilliant time too!

Laura - you are a superstar!

Room Tip: All rooms are good - some view the mountain and some view the lake. Some even view both!

This is a good standard B&B with clean modern rooms and ensure facilities. The communal areas are a bit old fashioned but the breakfast room has amazing views. The breakfast was of an excellent standard with variations on the typical cooked options. The hotel is next to Coniston water and the nearby village has several pubs for a drink after a day's walking.
