Owner description: Stunning Tarn Hows offers an accessible circular (1¾ miles) walk through beautiful countryside with majestic mountain views. A great place to walk and picnic, or to begin your wider Lake District countryside adventure. There are also rare Belted Galloway cattle and sturdy Herdwick sheep grazing by the tarn. There is a mobility scooter available for use for those who are less able to get around the Tarn.

Walked up the Tom Gyll to get to Tarn Hows , quite steep climb but well worth it for the view of the Tarns.

Pathways are well made and suitable for pushchairs, toddlers and wheelchairs. There was a mobility scooter available for hite from National Trust on the day we visited. Visitors are rewarded with fabulous views across to more distant fells with the lake Tarn Hows in the foreground. Most visitors simply walk around the lake and then leave, but more distant walking is possible from this location. At time of writing the car park costs £4. Tarn Hows is busy all year round, so if it's solitude you're after then seek out Loughrigg Tarn not far from Ambleside, though you'll need to do a bit more walking to reach that one.

Been many times, in all seasons.

Been ice skating when it froze over, swimming in the summer and camped on one of the islands.

Free parking for NT members, Great path for for cycling and walking around, track over to the top of the Conitson Ambleside road.

Views of the Langdales.

I've visited this place many times and it is alway a great destination to come. The only draw back is the parking which is dear at best. The walking around the lakes is beautiful and more than doable for most levels of fitness.
