Owner description: Stunning Tarn Hows offers an accessible circular (1¾ miles) walk through beautiful countryside with majestic mountain views. A great place to walk and picnic, or to begin your wider Lake District countryside adventure. There are also rare Belted Galloway cattle and sturdy Herdwick sheep grazing by the tarn. There is a mobility scooter available for use for those who are less able to get around the Tarn.

Been many times, in all seasons.

Been ice skating when it froze over, swimming in the summer and camped on one of the islands.

Free parking for NT members, Great path for for cycling and walking around, track over to the top of the Conitson Ambleside road.

Views of the Langdales.

I've visited this place many times and it is alway a great destination to come. The only draw back is the parking which is dear at best. The walking around the lakes is beautiful and more than doable for most levels of fitness.

Going when it's quiet is a bonus I think but at an time of year this is a great place (I love it in autumn and winter). Look out for fly agaric nestling in the undergrowth.

Friday 30th November ~ about minus 2, 3pm so wary of loosing the light and getting colder but what a fantastic sunset! I love this walk, haven't done it for years and took my hubby there for the first time ~ a warmer for the following day's harder walk but this is easy & steady and beautiful. Have to say thanks for the car park ticket though ~ another person kindly gave us theirs ~ NT really are taking the mickey at £4 for 2 hours parking....I don't mind paying, but this seems extortionate.
