“Miserable staff”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 3, 2013

Had a meal of fish and chips, very overpriced. Chips were inedible and the bar staff very unhelpful think they would rather we hadnt been there. We were a party of 6 so spent quite a lot on drinks and meals but did not even get a smile from any of the staff.

“the sun was not shining”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 11, 2012

a somewhat smaller group of friends who have a annual wkd away somewhere in the uk, used the Sun for a meal at the start of our sat night, we had booked a table for 8 in the restaurant. Four of our party had fish and chips and one lady who was pregnant ordered the burger (she had said she was coellic and therefore asked to have it without the bun) Everyone with fish and chips struggled as the huge chips were not sufficiently cooked and the burger came with a bun but worst not cooked properly!!

on telling staff - they rushed to bring another large plate of chips that were not cooked enough either - and the burger came back like rubber!
staff did not provide any discount at all or offer of drinks despite £12 for 4 fish with uncooked chips
Business like this think they can survive just because they 're located in a touristy area.

POOR SERVICE--- UNCOOKED FOOD ---NOT GOOD ENOUGH -

“A very friendly place to visit.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 24, 2012

THis is a tremendous Inn to visit if you are ever in Coniston. It is a welcoming place where the locals make you feel that you are part of the place. A great variety of Real Ales, eight on tap the time of my visit. The food on offer is not cheap but it is of a very high quality.

“Pleasant interior,food good but dear.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 20, 2012

Had drinks and food here after wet day on the fells, nice interior, think quaint cottage style. Good choice beers, food good but expensive, was £13 for cumberland sausage with mash, same price for burger and chips, service unremarkable, not asked if wanted any accompaniments,a minor point I know just being factual for the review. Would probably not eat here again but would call in for a drink.

“Food Review”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 20, 2012

We have just spent three nights at the hotel and am commenting on the food

Night 1 -
Fish, Chips, Mushy peas and tartar sauce - Amongst the best my husband has ever had

Sausage, Mash, Onion Gravy and Veg - very nice and local sausage

Night 2 -
Lasagne - we both had this and it was very nice, meat could have been a bit more whole but overall with the garlic bread was lovely.

Night 3 -
Burger, Chips - Very good
I had the fish and chips - very nice and better than some i have had.

The puddings we had were, Strawberry and Rhubarb cheese cake and ice cream both were very good.

Value for money I would state they were reasonable if a little pricey.

The waitress was very good, very attentive and very helpful.
