Just spent a couple of nights at the Broughton Craggs hotel and I have to say that I can't praise it highly enough. The location of the hotel in its own spacious grounds approached via a sweeping drive is a good start. I also like the feel of an English country house and the peacocks strutting around were a nice touch. The service is excellent and we felt very well looked after. The meals were generous and all in all I think its a very well kept secret.

Room Tip: Book early

Just had two nights here and the staff were genuinely friendly and hospitable. The hotel is in a lovely setting with a nice garden with peacocks wandering around.

Decent English breakfast and our bed was very comfortable something I find a bit hit and miss in the UK.

Stayed here for 2 nights the hotel is set in a beautiful location although we felt it would have been really nice if the french doors from the restaurant to the garden had been open. Staff were very friendly, however not very attentive both nights we stayed the bar, reception and restaurant were often left unattended. Food was very basic, some other guests weren't happy with the quality, menu is rather bland but reasonable. Having said that room was clean and comfortable and we would stay there again. Good place to chill out, fabulous location & views

Hotel location and setting is truly beautiful and loads to see and do close by. Don't quite see how the hotel has a 4 rosette rating from ETB. Hotel building is lovely however the interior is rather tired. The public rooms are spacious but really need redecorating. The room we were allocated (room 6), don't know if it was because it was a Groupon offer, was reasonably large but very basic, in dire need of repainting and proper lighting (whole hotel seemed to have a shortage of lightbulbs!). Interesting and not very effective curtain arrangement on velux window. Bathroom was old (green loo and sink) and basic, shower had loose tiles and mildew round the sealant. Big no no of carpet in bathroom!! Saving grace was very friendly young man on arrival who worked in the bar and good selection for breakfast.

If like me you purchased a stay at this hotel through Groupon as a gift for your loved one, then my heart goes out to you. I too was duped. This hotel looked stunning on the website and after the long drive, I was looking forward to a good meal, a comfortable stay and hospitable staff. Not too much to ask for you would think. You'd be wrong.

After a disgruntled sixteen year old reluctantly seated us at a table in what could only be described as a shabby dining area, whilst mumbling that they were ready to close, we gave our order and waited patiently for our roast beef and yorkshire puds. The beef was so overcooked I could barley produce enough saliva to moisten it enough to swallow, the yorkshire was burnt to a crisp and our drinks were nowhere to be seen. To add insult to injury the 16 year old waiting staff floating around the dining room were completely disinterested in service and appeared to be held there against their will.
On the whole our room and amenities were acceptable but fell far below the standard portrayed on the website. The one saving grace of our stay here was the lovely gardner Dennis who could not have been more helpful and even recommended a lovely walk which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Basic food, but very good food bit like pub grub. Great location, great service, great rooms and you can take your dogs at no extra charge. Great place to chill out after a days exploring in the lakes!

Room Tip: There is a four poster bed room for an extra bit of luxury
