The food is cooked on the premises and as it is done freshly it may take a little time. I go every week for a Sunday lunch which is a choice of two or three roasts. Half portions are available for senior citizens for these lunches. Evening meals are again freshly cooked with usually four choices. Note : not out of a bag!

We came to the lakes for a family holiday and there were six of us staying at the nearby Travelodge, so we decided to walk into Cockermouth for an evening meal and we were not disappointed by this little gem.

When we arrived the place looked relatively busy but we were greeted by a friendly young chap on the bar and shown were we would be seated, there was plenty to choose from on the menu and I went for the tasty lamb shoulder which literally slipped of the bone. There was no room for desserts but we were complimented by after mints. My mother who was with us wanted one of the Jennings glasses to take home so we asked the barman and he politely said yes and asked if we would put a donation in the charity box for it, which we were happy to do. Overall the friendly service and the lovely food was excellent. We will return soon when in the lakes.

Booked a table for a meal with friends last week. The bar area was full downstairs so we were glad we had booked. But despite the busy place, staff were very attentive and our meal arrived, hot and fresh. You always get generous portions at the Tithe so we went straight on to main courses. I had the chicken, bacon and mushroom risotto and it was delicious! Best risotto I've ever had and I will be returning for more! p.s. Try the lumpy bumpy cake for pudding!

Booked this place the other night for my wife's birthday. We received excellent service from the 2 young men who were running the bar, very courteous and helpful. We did however have a wait of around 3/4 of an hour maybe before our meals arrived. There were quite a few tables in and everything appeared to be cooked to order so this probably explained the wait. When the food arrived it proved well worth it, piping hot, and excellent in every way. The beautifully browned home made chips were commented on by all !! we thoroughly enjoyed all our main meals and the sweets were equally good.
A little pricey perhaps for a bar meal but you only get what you pay for. Would definitely go again.
