Good and imaginative food with a fair selection of real ales; friendly service and attractive decor; several rooms and so there is something for everyone

Ate here early Sat eve. Had to eat in pub downstairs as restaurant upstairs fully booked. Same menu however. Busy pub Inc popular. Nice atoms. All ages there. I had steak, perfectly cooked with homemade chips and the works. My boyfriend had the scampi. No complaints whatsoever. Dec recommend calling in if you are in the area.

Eat here last night for a meal with me and my friend (who was happy to see they had gluten free food on the menu so celiac friendly!) i had a steak cooked rare expected it to be overcooked as it was so large but was very impressed all the food was lovely and at a great price too fill for puddings though. I love coming here it is great.

Excellent menu, huge portions but we had to cut our meal short (ie we had no dessert) because of the noise! We ate upstairs in the restaurant but two large parties sahared the room and the noise got worse and worse. Such a shame because the food was of good quality, the portions were more than sufficient and the price was very reasonable. Maybe midweek would be better.

Both husband and myself had toasted steak sandwiches with "big chips". Delicious and filling. Waitress helpful friendly and efficient. Prices reasonable. Good choice on lunchtime menu and specials board - not your standard packaged and microwaved fodder. Portion size very good - we didnt eat again until quite late that night. Quite a few people eating a variety of items and all seemed happy with quality of food on offer. Other staff friendly too - nice to be acknowledged with a "Thank you" and a "Goodbye" - too few pubs bother with this these days. Would definitely recommend and would return if in this area again. Cockermouth itself is a lovely little place - worth a visit.
