Range of beers - all Cumbrian and priced very competitively - cheapest in town. The meal I had the first visit was so good I always choose it. Others with me also enjoyed their very enticing lookng meals. Can't wait to try a Sunday lunch!

I visitored the castle bar for a Sunday afternoon meal with my wife, we had both had a drink , and lunchtime snack in the bar before, but had decided to book a table for a meal, and it certainly wont be the last time, as the food wine and service was 1st class. I'm a vegitarian and the choice's were excellent, I had wild mushroom risotto, and had asked for some extra green chillies through it, it was perfection, the staff were attentitive and informative about the food, portions etc, it all made for a excellent satisfying afternoon, welldone

Visiting Cockermouth last month and found this superb pub in the renovated Market Place. Front room with it's wood floors and well stocked real ales and good lagers is just one comfortable area. There are other floors and rooms where you can find good dining and/or sitting down for a good crack with the locals. Good attentive staff obviously well managed. Recommended.
