We visited the Wateredge Inn last Saturday night and were looking for a nice, quiet dinner for 2. We arrived at 8:30pm and were told (with attitude) that we would have to hurry up and order because they were to stop serving at 9pm. We ordered drinks straight away and ordered food within 5 minutes. We ordered the chorizo starter which was passable and the mushrooms starter which was very bland and mostly inedible.
We then both ordered the Porterhouse steaks which at £21 were not the cheapest in Ambleside. We ordered one well done and one medium. Both were very very dry, tough and the medium steak had been cooked beyond well done.
To add to the food being below par, there was a party next to us with 4 children who were running around (after 10pm), running outside and banging on the glass, they were scraping chairs, swinging handbags, banging spoons on their plates and being a general nuisance. The waitress just seemed to find the behaviour amusing and did not spare a thought for those of us who expected a quiet dinner at that time of night. We are by no means anti-child, however, I think there is a time and a place for shouting, banging furniture etc and in a pub/restaurant late in the evening is not it. I feel that the staff should have stepped in and had a quiet word.
Needless to say, we did not stick around for dessert, we could not wait to leave. Location, cleanliness, surroundings all excellent. Food and staff were a massive let down.
