“Still excellent”
Reviewed November 28, 2012 via mobile

Had a lovely meal again at The Glass House..... The risotto starter is superb and I enjoyed an excellent steak. My only criticism would be that the menu rarely changes. Perhaps they should offer a couple of "specials" to offer a little variety. But the meal was excellent.

“Sick after the meal...”
Reviewed November 20, 2012

We visit Ambleside 1-2 times each year and know the restaurants well. We were at the Glass House in November last year and had a good meal so we decided to go back in September. I had a fish dish which was luke warm and my husband had the lamb which was certainly hot as it was steaming when placed in front of him. The service and ambience was not so good this time. My husband never has any problems with his stomach but in the middle of the night he was violently sick and this was obviously down to the food. There will never be a return visit to this restaurant.

“Great food, great surroundings, service lets the place down.”
Reviewed November 19, 2012 via mobile

We first visited the Glass house out of curiosity having seen it on Ramsays kitchen nightmares and thoroughly enjoyed it. The food is excellent ( try the herdwick lamb shank, it falls off the bone!!) the wine list is great but the dining experience really let's the place down. We were seated downstairs near the bar area, our starter came and we felt like we were being rushed as the staff were stood watching us, it was the same for the rest of meal, we left feeling very uncomfortable and have no plans to return. It's such a shame. When I go out for a nice meal I expect a relaxing atmosphere no to be made to feel like animals in the zoo

“The place to eat on a cold, dark night!”
Reviewed November 16, 2012

Very welcoming staff - coats taken on arrival , and brought back at the end o the meal.

Other half said he had never tasted lamb as tender and flavoursome before, even though he chooses lamb quite often.

The balsamic vinegar and flavoured oil for dippping was excellent.

“Disappointing”
Reviewed November 12, 2012 via mobile

Whenever we visit the Lake District we make a point of having a meal at The Glass House & have always been impressed.
We booked a table four days in advance for a Friday evening. When we arrived we were shown to our table on the ground floor, facing into a corner with a dirty blind on the window & stains on the wall. The food was ok but not as good as we had remembered. The staff were run ragged having to serve behind the bar & wait tables. There didn't seem to be any designated roles. Once we asked for the bill we waited 20 mins to pay. The restaurant is in such a stunning building. The customer service & the food used to match. It seems to be going downhill. Lots of customers being crammed in but the quality isn't what it was. Maybe we just went on a bad night but we won't be back.
