“Exactly what we hoped for - lovely place”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

We have chosen to stay in Lakes Lodge because of the good reviews it's receiving on TripAdvisor and we were not disappointed.
The location is superb - just a couple of minutes walk to the center of Ambleside. The room we had (number 2 on the first floor) was clean, spacious and really warm. The heating stays on all the time and makes the whole place warm and cosy (exactly what one needs after long walk around the lakes). The room was being cleaned daily and tea/coffee facilities topped up.
Breakfast was really nice - one can select from full English breakfast to continental selection of fruit, yogurts and croissants.
The selection of DVDs is a nice touch if you wish to stay indoors for the evening.
The only minus is the small parking (we had to leave the car outside the main door on the road one night) but it's nothing that would stop us from coming again in the future.

On our arrival we were shown to Room 1. It didn't quite have the wow factor I had expected for the premium rate charged for a 'Valentines weekend'. The views were lovely however and it had a nice bathroom. On the downside one window is obscured by the fire escape and having read reviews on here that had mentioned noise from the fire escape being used as a throughfare I decided to see if any other rooms were available to compare. This was swiftly and very politely dealt with by the young lady on Reception. Top marks for her attitude and professionalism. We were offered a swap to Room 4 which I felt better suited us as it was a larger room at the front of the house. Nice view of the gardens across the road and some snow capped peaks in the distance. The four poster bed was a nice touch too. Bed was very firm but comfortable. Traffic noise was not a problem to us. Breakfast was plentiful, fresh and the staff were keen to ensure that you got everything you wanted. Very helpful staff, who genuinely made us feel very welcome. Minor quibble, the WiFi went down for most of the time we were there but I know they were trying their best to get it fixed. Overall a really good experience and we will definitely return. Next time we'll take the littl'un and try one of the family rooms.

Room Tip: Room 4 is a large room with four poster bed and a nice sitting area in the bay window at the front o...

Stayed here for three nights. We booked a kingsize bed room which was at the front on the top floor. My wife who is a light sleeper noticed the traffic noise that has been mentioned on previous reviews but I didn't.
I found the the room, Room 7 to be very spacious although the bed was extremely hard. We were told this was due the new mattress.

The breakfast is buffet and cannot be faulted. Perfect to start the day.

It is five minutes walk to the centre of ambleside and a fifteen minute walk from the lake.

The real positive to this place was the friendly and helpful staff.

Room Tip: Room 7 has a very hard bed, and you might experience some traffic noise

Just got back from our second stay at Lakes Lodge and once again the experience was first rate. The staff are very friendly and helpful and would go out their way to make our stay enjoyable. The room was very comfortable with lovely views and the self service breakfast is a welcome change from the usual b & b breakfasts. This definitely wont be out last visit.

We arrived just as the snow was beginning to settle, checked into our room swiftly with help from the girl on reception (very friendly). We had a twin room at the back of hotel room 6 on the 2nd floor, we had requested a twin room ( I have a back problem and can be a pain to sleep with!!) anyway it had two large double beds and was quite spacious and nicely furnished with lovely views to the side. On the first floor is an ice machine with ice buckets which we took advantage of and the girl on reception provided me with wine flutes. There are tea and coffee facilities and a small Tv in the room. Beds were very comfortable and room very warm although I did lower the heating in the end! Wash basin is in the bedroom which is a little odd but fine, bathroom had bath and shower, with lovely thick towels and toiletries.
Breakfast was great and we were asked if we would like anything that wasn't already out, service and staff excellent and all very pleasant and chatty. They also cleared the snow so we were able to get our car out! We would definitely stay here again next time we visit Ambleside as position we felt was ideal and the price very good. I was a little concerned before we went as it is a dog friendly Hotel/guesthouse and I don't really like dogs, however I was advised they are not allowed in the main building at anytime and this was true as they have allocated access to superior basement rooms from the car park. Highly recommend.
