We have just returned from a weekend in Ambleside where we had the misfortune of staying at the Ambleside Lodge as everything else was already fully booked. A lesson learnt, re-arrange your weekend but I can't stress strongly enough; don't be tempted into staying here! We stayed in what was supposedly the best room but the decor was in desperate need of updating, the curtains were hanging off the rails and everything was done to the minimum standard. The key word here for the owners is clearly "maximum profit and minimum outlay".

There was no breakfast choice and the ingredients were the cheapest of cheap . The owners weren't visable at any time (other than hanging around outside smoking or drinking tea in the hallways). Certainly no-one had ever heard of customer relations or hospitality. This is a money grabbing business which milks its central location and nothing more.

By contrast we were able to get a room at the Drunken Duck for our third night. For less money we had five star treatment, wonderful food and cream teas thrown in. Simple, tasteful decor, friendly staff and lovely setting.

Stayed: April 2008
Thank threllie

At Ambleside Lodge we are currently redecorating and refurbishing, the public areas are now complete, but only half the bedrooms are finished as we are finding it increasing difficult to access the rooms as we are incredibly busy. We provide excellent service and value. The breakfast is first class, I would invite anyone to call in to see us and take a look at our visitors book on the reception desk as this carries a lot of comments about our breakfasts, all good. The breakfast choice is extensive, it consists of, various cereals, prunes, grapefruit. fresh fruit, greek yogurt, flavoured yogurt, bacon sausage, egg (fried, scrambled, poached boiled) tomatoes, mushrooms, beans, toast, hash browns along with vegan, vegetarian and other special dietary options. As for the smoking and drinking tea, no one at Ambleside lodge smokes!!! We do not drink tea in the public areas, if we do have a cup of tea this is taken downstairs in the dining room. Once again I would like to invite visitor to Ambleside to call in and inspect our premises, (without an appointment)
