We stayed in room 11; the decor was contemporary and of a high standard. We loved the bathroom and the shower was great. We loved the sheepskin rugs at the sides of the bed, a sumptuous contrast from the tiled floor when getting in and out of bed. The linen and towels were gorgeous as we're all the little thoughtful extras. We were blessed by glorious weather and spent afternoons on the seating area outside our room basking in the sun and enjoying the views. The breakfasts are lovely and the hospitality was amazing. We got married nearby while we were there and can honestly say we could not have wished for a more special place to stay for our honeymoon. It's a great location to stay to travel from to visit all the spectacular and amazing views on offer here. Thanks to all of the staff for an enjoyable stay, we look forward to seeing you again. Mr and Mrs Marsden

We stayed at Fisherbeck for one night recently. Although we often visit the Lake District, this was our first time at this hotel.
It's a good location - on Lake Road and just near the garden centre (if you know the area). It's an easy walk into the village or down to Waterhead and although the hotel is on a main road, it is set back enough to be fairly quiet. Our room was clean and a reasonable size. The bathroom was a decent size also with spa bath and shower. We enjoyed breakfast also. Good choice with table service (which we prefer to the normal buffet scramble) and pleasant staff.
Sleep quality could have been better. The various extractor fans and plumbing noises were an unwelcome dawn chorus. Felt like the bed had some sort of plastic cover under the cotton sheets also.
Accomodation always comes at a premium in the Lakes. This hotel is good value by comparison and ticks most of the boxes. The decor lets it down though. Although recently decorated in many areas, the style is too 1980's for us. The rooms are better but the public areas aren't impressive.
There are so many other hotels with old world charm and features that I fear Fisherbeck will struggle to compete on anything but price unless it can adapt.
But - we had no complaints. Good value, good location and clean hotel. Just don't expect a 'wow'.

This is the first time my husband and I have stayed in the Lake District so were a little unsure where to start when booking a hotel. The fisherbeck was recommended to us by friends who stayed here previously and I can see why....
The hotel is spotless and beautifully decorated. The room was a good size as was the bathroom with his and hers sinks, shower and spa bath. The bed was so comfortable and a super king size with lovely soft pillows and clean sheets.
There is a very comfy area on the first floor for all guests to use ( but we found ourselves the only ones for 2 nights running... Maybe it was the time of year) with a good choice of drinks served till 11pm and a lovely open fire....delightful!!!!
The owners bend over backwards to help you and are very knowledgeable on the local area and are more than happy to give you advice if needed.
A little added bonus we found was the complimentary spa passes to a nearby country club which is well worth a visit... The hotel even provides you with towels to take... What more can you ask for!!
Myself and my husband couldn't fault this place and above all the location is perfect... We will be returning this year and will also bring my parents who I'm sure will enjoy it just as much as we have.

perfectly placed for getting into the mountains. we did Fairfield Horseshoe from the hotel - about 16 miles in the snow in Feb!

the great food was even tastier after days in the mountains. Great wine selection with the owner on hand to recomend wines with the different courses.

The Fisherbeck is ideally located a short walk from Ambleside Town Centre. All staff were extremely friendly, from the moment we arrived and throughout our stay. We found the owner to be polite and friendly - providing useful advice on walks, current route conditions and offering the use of their 'drying facilities' for our gear should we need them.

Our room was very well proportioned with a spa bath and separate shower (his and hers sinks were a bonus..!), fabulous balcony with splendid views over the fells.

Breakfast offered a fantastic choice and service was flawless. Highly recommended...!

Room Tip: Ask for Room 2 (unless you are planning on going during our next visit)...!

We stayed for four nights in a self catering cottage Mill Rigg in Ambleside, owned and operated by The Fisherbeck Hotel.
The Cottage is located only few minutes from the centre of Ambleside, on the top of the hill. The view from the terrace is very nice and inside is everything modern and usefull. The high standard of all bungalow and warm space of the living room made a great relax after our walks. The last morning we enjoyed an excellent breakfast in The Fisherbeck Hotel and all staff of the hotel was nice and friendly.
Our time there was amazing and we would highly recommend this cottage.

After reading the reviews on here, regarding the overly strict owner, i was initially nervous about our 2 night reservation here but these worries were ill founded. To be honest we had no reason to complain so we never had to come up against him but whenever we spoke to him he was always polite, if not overly friendly, but we prefer that. We do not go on holiday to make small talk with someone we don't know for hours(we both have to do that within our jobs so prefer to keep to ourselves when we are on holiday together).
The room we were in was not overly large and the bathroom was small but that did not deter from the charm of the whole establishment. I felt so comfortable that it was almost like a home away from home. The only issue was that the window looked out onto a wall but you have to pay extra for a room with a view. The breakfast was excellent with a huge variety to choose from.
