“Very disappointed”
Reviewed November 18, 2012

We booked a family room for the three of us.After booking in we found the room to be quite small especially the double bed was very small. In the bathroom the bath panel was cracked with a strategically placed towel trying to cover it up, the sink was also cracked. The towels were small and just one small tube of shower gel between the 3 of us we took our own but the website made a point of mentioning the toiletries. The ladies on reception were friendly and helpful but the male proprietor was fairly ignorant bordering on rude even ignoring me after I had wished him a good morning. Our first visit to the lakes it's a lovely place just a shame we stayed here really.

Oh dear. We really did not get it right for you did we, and for that we extend our most sincere apologies. Raymond has absolutely no recollection of the incident and I can assure you that is not his usual manor in dealing with our guests...who are of great value to us.

I did mention on your arrival that a burst water pipe under your room floor had been repaired just that morning and that together with a number of very serious maintenance issues arose all at one time certainly distracted us. But that is no excuse and we should have remained professional under all circumstances.

The room you had is descibed as having one double bed and one single bed, which will have been re-iterated in your confirmation letter. There is not a king size bed in that room. This family room has served our guests well for a number of years and whilst not an overly large room many of our guests return to it time & time again. But expectations are changing and in 12 months time, becuse we already have so many reservations for the coming season, it will become a double room with twin beds or super king size bed to suit individual requirements. In the meantime however, as winter approaches and we close for refurbishments the sink and bath panel are already ordered for replacement, bath sheets will be in every room and toiletries will flow in abundance...just ask if you wish for more.

If by any chance we could tempt you back why not try our very large family room which in one weeks time will undergo a complete refurbishment.

We really do appreciate your comments. If there are things we are not doing well we need to know about it.

Regards

Gillian Lane

My husband and I , our daughter, her husband and son (14) have just spent four delightful days at this self-catering bungalow, belonging to Fisher Beck . Its position, at the end of a cul de sac, on the hillside above the hotel, is superb, with wonderful views in all directions, down to the town or up to the distant Langdales. We arrived to find spotlessly clean accommodation with good-sized towels provided, immaculate bed-linen and nice little touches such as a flowering plant on the dining table and nice toiletries in both the modern bathrooms. It was beautifully warm, too ! Raymond, the hotel owner was extremely helpful, first guiding us to the property and later returning promptly to attend to a partially-blocked basin. The shower in one of the bathrooms was the best "power shower" we've experienced, by the way ! Cooking facilities were very good, with a generous number of spotless pans etc. The men appreciated the WiFi and the dockingstation/radio . A TV in each of the three bedrooms as well as the living room was an unexpected luxury. We were able to sit in the little conservatory to enjoy the scenery over coffee and, if it had been summer, could have sat out in the small garden with its table and six chairs or even enjoyed using the BBQ . Generally, it was an ideal venue for a small family get-together and we hope to return one day.

Thank you very much indeed for taking the time to write your review with regard to your stay at Mill Rigg, one of our three self-catering holiday homes.

This property had been my father's home and we were so taken by its position and views that we just could not let it go. My husband hopes to retire there one day.

I think that having such wonderful views, plenty of private parking and a decent sized garden to enjoy a little alfresco living in the warmer months make it a lovely holiday property.

Thank you again and we are so very glad you enjoyed your short break. We do hope we will be able to welcome you back to Mill Rigg in the not too distant future.

Our one night stay did not dissapoint as this hotel/B&B is well run and clean with friendly staff.
Only little inconvenience was dragging our suitcases through narrow confined staircase to the 2nd floor was quite bothersome.
Hotel/B&B pricing was at the toppish end,& though our room was newly refurbished and very clean with all mod cons cannot say it was excellent value.
Breakfast was included and very good

Thank you very much for taking the time to write your review.

Your comments are much appreciated and please know that assistance with luggage is always available. These old buildings were not built to provide accommodation as we do now, but that is what gives them such character.

We trust you enjoyed the rest of your holiday and had a safe and pleasant return journey.

Kind regards

We chose to stay at the Fisherbeck after reading the good reviews on Trip Advisor and we were not disappointed. When we arrived we were greeted with a complimentary tea/coffee which we had in the lovely living room. Our room was exceptional. A lovely comfortable king sized bed and tasteful decor. We were extremely grateful for the spa bath after a long hard days walk. The one thing that we particularly noticed about the Fisherbeck was how clean everything was, I did not see one speck of dirt in our room!! The breakfast was hearty and tasty. We were also extremely impressed with how attentive the owner was and how polite and curteous he was towards ourselves in particular giving us weather updates and passing on his local knowledge of the area. We have already recommended the Fisherbeck to friends and family.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write your review. We well remeber your stay with us and we are so pleased that you had an enjoyable time.

I do have to say though, that whilst, as owners, Raymond & I are very hands on and are here every day, we could not do this job without our very consciencious hardworking staff who meet & greet and keep the building as clean as they can. I will make sure that your comments are forwarded to them.

Thank you again and we do hope we will be able to welcome you back in the future if you a planning another trip the The Lake Distict. Thanks also for your recommendation to friends & family.

Kind regards

We chose this B&B because of the good reviews on Trip advisor. It is a nice place but I think the prices are too high.

Good things:
+ nice big rooms (10-14)
+ modern finish and top class bathrooms
+ very comfortable beds
+ cosy and warm rooms
+ always different special to choose for breakfast

Bad things:
- no WiFi in the rooms (for this price it should be available)
- limited TV programes
- average food for breakfast (just like in any standard B&B although served as in restaurant)
- noise from the main road
- we expected to have a quiet garden/patio in luxury rooms (as advertised) but it turns out to be just some space in front of the main door... what so special about it? Not sure. It is just next to the car park and the main road + all the people walking to the hotel.

Thank you very much indeed for taking the time to write your review. It is very much appreciated and we take on board your comments.

We can, however, let you know that from the end of this month, November 2012, wi-fi will be available throughout the entire building. We have provided complimentary wi-fi to our guests for several years but having a building of this age with some walls almost a metre thick in places it was not ever going to be easy to reach all of our rooms. And I think we were somewhat taken by surprise at the massive increase during 2012 of those guests travelling with devices, so whilst we are playing catch-up, the work which will be carried out is rather intrusive and could not be done during our very busy season. But that is all about to change.

We trust you had a safe and pleasant return journey and thank you again.

Kind regards

Gillian Lane

This is a very pleasant place to stay, scrupulously clean, courteous and friendly staff including hands-on by the owner. The rooms are good sized with modern facilities and there is a good choice of breakfast foods beside the excellent traditional full English including daily specials. It is conveniently located just on the edge of Ambleside town, which is central to the whle Lake District.

The only down side was that the wi-fi is a bit 'hit and miss', but probably a mixed blessing as you don't need to contact the outside world.

Thank you very much indeed for your comments and taking the time to write your review.

We are also glad that you mentioned wi-fi, and whilst it has been available to our guests, free of charge, for several years it has had limited range. Having many walls that are little short of a metre in depth it has been very hard to get a signal throughout the building. But times are a-changing.

We have been caught a little by surprise I think as 2012 has probably seem a 1000 times increase in the number of visitors travelling with devices but from the end of November 2012 we will have the ability to supply a signal to every one of our rooms.

Unfortuantely the work will be a little intrusive and so it was not possible to carry it out during the busy season.

With thanks again and we do hope you will consider staying with us again should you plan a return trip to The English Lake District.

Kind regards

We stayed here,as Hawkshed Tarn Hows and Coniston were the places we wanted to see,
while on a two day visit to the Lake Disrict.
Bed and breakfast was our choice, and what a breakfast it was, with a huge choice of cereals
all homemade and lovely tomato marmalade to full English. Freshly baked herb scones and bread. It was nice to be waited on too.
Our room was ok for a standard room but the bathroom was small.staff were very friendly I would
definately stay there again. Anne

Room Tip: Perhaps the next price up from a standard room.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write your review and we are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. Trust also that you got to see the places you wanted to see including Tarn Hows and Coniston.

Rachel our manager is the lovely lady who bakes the savoury brakfast scones and makes the tomato marmalade to go with them. I will pass your comments along to her.

With thanks again.
