“friendly hotel, good for walkers”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 5, 2011

We stayed for a walking weekend at this small, clean, friendly hotel in Ambleside. The room was well decorated, clean and comfortable with a spa bath. Breakfast is great, with a wide selection to suit all tastes and requirements. The owners are welcoming in every way possible. The weather was not so great during our stay, and the owners were very helpful in drying out all our wet walking clothing. There is a comfortable lounge/bar, and the hotel is very convenient for all local facilities, including the hills!

We had a very nice stay at the Fisherbeck. The staff were very courteous and helpful.
The breakfast was excellent and there is a lot of choice, all meals were home made. All ingredients were local and even the jams and brown sauce were home made, very tasty.

The rooms were very comfortable, showers powerful, although the hot water ran out on one of the mornings.

Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Book early

The service was first class from all the staff. The room was very clean and comfortable, we made great use of the balcony, the breakfast menu was outstanding. The welcome and general atmosphere was very friendly and made our stay most enjoyable. We would not hesitate to use the Fisherbeck again and would highly recommend it to our friends and family.

Room Tip: We had a balcony room (no. 15) which was exceptionally clean and comfortable with great views.

One of those nice places to stay. We stayed for 3 nights where we had great breakfasts each morning. It was nice to be shown to the table and served with the breakfast, as mine host said, they are a little old fashioned. The only down point was the room (5) very clean, nice modern shower room but being at the back of the hotel over looking old lake road we had traffic noise from about 06:30 am onwards. We would stop here again but would ask for a front faceing room. This did not stop us from enjoying our stay.

We have recently stayed at The Fisherbeck, we chose the hotel due to the fantastic reviews and I can stay they are all true. What a lovely, clean and well run establishment. We had a lovely Garden Room, which had plenty of storage, a very comfortable bed and the most wonderful bathroom, with a fantastic shower! which makes a refreshing change. Breakfast was a feast, with plenty to chose from and plenty of Waitresses’ on hand to assist. The hotel is about a 5 min walk from the Village and the same distance to Lake Windermere. There are plenty of restaurants/places to eat to chose from and we would recommend Sheila's Cottage and The Glass House. We would most definitely stay here again and would recommend it to family and friends.

Having stayed at various B&B''s in Ambleside, this was the first time we brought our 2 children (ages 10 &14). Therefore needing a family room to keep costs down we searched out and came across the Fisherbeck Hotel. Having driven passed in many times over the years and always thinking it appeared to bigt and to corperate to be good then I was not sure what to expect. It appeared to have received good reports via tripadvisor and I'm pleased to say that I am now adding my own good report as the hotel was absolutely fine - very clean (really important to us) and the family room was more spacious than I had expected. The staff were really helpful and the owner still smiled the next day despite me stealing her parking space (sorry - didn't see the sign til next morning!). The only noticable concern was the lack of english waitoring staff at breakfast. Not that it was a problem but would recomend an english front person as several members of staff clearly struggled with the language at times. Keep up the good work and we will definately come back.

While on holiday in UK recently, my wife deicided to spend more time with her sister and therefore, we cancelled our trip to Scotland leading to exploring location closeby and hence, decided on Lake District. It was a last minute booking done and we were lucky (yes, I can definitely say that) to get two rooms there.

The location is ideal to visit the lake, do fell walking and some excellent food joints nearby. Breakfast was nice departure from standard buffet. I think, it was very cleverly organised by owners for best utilisation of space and providing personalised service to guests. Since, my wife and I are vegeterian, we were delighted to see the option. I know, you wouldn't get many like us. But, just in case, the breakfast will be difficult for us after 2 days.

I like whiskey and Ray can be a very good tutor. He provided me with wonderful lesson on how to enjoy the Single Malt. If you are there, definitely try some of his carefully selected smokey whiskeys.

Overall, a brilliant place....they are very handy to guide you on local restaurants
