My wife is from England, and we used a week in the Lake District both as a personal vacation and a chance to get together with her two brothers and their respective wives. We "lucked out" in every way. First, Ambleside itself is an excellent base -- surprisingly non-touristy, though with the facilities (pubs, restaurants, grocery and other shopping) that mean you are not isolated. I would contrast it to Windemere, Bowness and Keswick, all of which are self-consciously "twee". While it is in the southern Lakes, the northern Lakes are very close, at least if you have a car. Second, Argyle Cottage is extremely comfortable and well equipped. We cannot speak too highly of how immaculately clean it was. In addition, with two full bathrooms and three double bedrooms in addition to a full kitchen and separate living room/dining area, it handled six adults with ease. Third, it is a very short walk to the town center as well as to two superb pubs. No question but that we'll be back.

Such a lovely rental, very well equipped. Beautifully decorated and well maintained. Husband loved the log fire. Stayed for the week and weather was a bit iffy at times but it was lovey walking back into Argyle cottage and relaxing by the fire. Very central to Ambleside, quite a steep walk to the cottage. Lots of walking close by without having to move the car. We did find parking up near the cottage or you can park in the car park which is close by. Lots of cafes and pubs very close. All in all a brilliant stay :)

This cottage is well-appointed and made for a wonderful place to vacation for us for a week. We were 5 adults and one toddler (all family). The bedrooms worked well for us and the bathrooms were luxurious. The kitchen was great with everything we needed as we ate most of our meals in. We even had guests one night for dinner and enjoyed the preparation for that. The location was perfect as we could walk to the town in less that 5 minutes and start off on longer day walks right from the cottage. We would absolutely rent Argyle cottage again if we were in the area. Would love to return.

We stayed here in Sept 2014 for 1 week. It is an excellently appointed cottage - 3 large bedrooms and 2 large shower rooms. Spotlessly clean with a great dining room and living area.
It is a short walk to the centre of Ambleside and there are 2 brilliant traditional pubs nearby -Golden Rule & Unicorn.
If you are looking for a lovely cottage in the middle of the Lakes look no further than Arglye Cottage.
Boiler is switched off between visitors - make sure you switch on when you arrive!!
Parking is very limited at the cottage but a few spaces start to be freed up after 5pm.

We stayed here with our daughter, son-in-law and toddler grand-daughter in early June and were very impressed with the absolutely impeccable (probably recently re-decorated throughout) condition of Argyle Cottage. The 3 bedrooms all have kingsize beds with plenty of storage, both the upstairs bathroom and ground floor shower room are large and well-appointed with very new looking facilities, the lounge/dining area is spacious with large flat-screen TV/DVD and plentiful supply of books, local info, children's toys, games and puzzles for wetter days. The all-electric kitchen also looks very new, with washer-drier, dishwasher, microwave, kettle, very slow toaster & a plentiful range of crockery, cutlery, utensils, etc.
As mentioned by others, the cottage is only a few minutes steep walk up from the centre of Ambleside, with (sometimes) parking available immediately in front or at the top of the hill, or if not, a permit is supplied for use in local car parks, the nearest being about 10 minutes walk away. Because it is in the oldest part of Ambleside there is no garden, also there is no Wi-Fi access.
All in all, a pleasant cottage in an attractive Lake District resort.

We have visited Argyle Cottage twice now with friends, both times for a weekend, and thoroughly enjoyed our stays.
The cottage is very clean and so well thought out, it manages to be luxurious and yet cosy. Love the décor too! There's a super lounge with comfy seating, lavish bathrooms, inviting bedrooms etc.
Lovely countryside views from the house and great walks, we found on street parking too. Well located and just a couple of minutes walk up from the centre of Ambleside but enough distance to be peaceful.
We would certainly return given the chance.
We've stayed in this cottage two years running now and would definitely go back again! Best features are the comfort, space, modern and clean decor, warmth and perfect position just off the town centre. There are plenty of lovely short walks and longer day walks straight from the front door.
The lounge has a comfortable and very large sofa and a big dining table which easily took 8 people when friends living up there visited. The bathroom upstairs is huge and there's a walk-in shower and 2nd toilet downstairs. The big coat rack just inside the door and little boiler room were great for drying wet clothes. We enjoyed sitting on the window seats and watching the weather or occasional walker go by at the end of the day. The kitchen is new, a good size, with all the usual appliances you'd expect. There are loads of games, books, DVDs etc, which kept the kids busy while we made a meal. The DVD tv's in the bedrooms were good for keeping them quiet for a bit in the morning too!
A big plus is the free parking on the doorstep and the 2 minute walk down to the town centre, passing a lovely gift shop and the must-visit Rock Shop. We've found the local outdoor shops are so reasonably-priced and well-stocked that it's not worth buying kit before we get there (children are growing out of boots every year at the moment!) Finding the cottage is dead easy after the first time - that's more a feature of the old part of Ambleside than good/bad directions.
Liked least? Well, I hate to say it but it's much nicer than our home, until we decorate it all of course ;-), so it's difficult to leave at the end of the week! The lack of WiFi is a mixed blessing.
