“Wonderful Experience”
Reviewed February 3, 2013

We recently stayed for two nights at The Regent Hotel on their special dinner/bed & breakfast basis. We could use one word to describe our experience - faultless! Our room was a good size and although the bathroom was small it did include a bath with shower over which I had requested. The staff were friendly, attentive and professional. The food deserves a special mention, beautifully presented and a choice for every diet, the breakfast was superb and our choices for the evening meal were absolutely delicious, the crisp white table linen and sparkling glasses added to the dining experience. The hotel came recommended to us by friends and we certainly weren't disappointed. We would hope to return to The Regent when next visiting the area. Thank you for
making our stay so special.

Room Tip: We stayed in a classic room in the main hotel which was perfect for our needs.

We have been going to this hotel every winter for nearly twenty years and the Hewitt family never fail to improve on their already very high standards. Ideally situated for a short walk into Ambleside or more strenuous trek close by, and with Lake Windemere on the doorstep, location is everything!
Food is always glorious and wines, especially if you let Andrew choose for you, are always the best. Modern decor in a traditional hotel where you are made to feel special.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the main building

My wife, two year old daughter and I stayed for 2 nights this month for a short break.we booked one of the garden suites in order to have a separate sleeping area for our toddler.we were extremely impressed with the room in general.it was a really good size and really well set out.our daughter had all the room she wanted to run around and play, plus the separate bedroom area meant that once she went to bed my wife and I could still sit up and spend time together.the room was spotlessly clean and beautifully presented.the location of the hotel was second to none-right on the lake with absolutely stunning views.the breakfast was superb, pleanty of options for all of us.all of the staff we spoke to were friendly and efficient and we were very impressed with their attitudes.ambleside village is just a short walk away and it is a lovely quaint village with lots of shops and eateries and really is a beautiful place.all in all the regent was great-we would definately recommend it to anyone-very impressed!!

Stayed here having stayed at Lake House 4 or 5 times (see separate review - run by same group). We have eaten here before when at Lake House and frankly fancied something different. We have a dog, so needed a 'dog room' and ended up in one of the Courtyard Rooms. They're a bit smaller than the Hideaway rooms in the Lake House but well furnished, very comfy bed and good enough bathroom - Jacuzzi bath.

We arrived late and the member of staff from reception came to the car and helped us with bags. Our first room had no bath and as we're keen walkers, really wanted one for our return to the hotel on Saturday. We asked and within 2mins were shown to another room with a bath. Breakfast was very good, good quality and service. Parts of the public areas in the main hotel have had quite a makeover and the lounge, restaurant and bar areas are really very nice. Had a few drinks in the bar before heading out and it was very relaxing.

Our only complaint was the really loud extractor fan in the bathroom in Room 26 - it clearly needs a service or to be replaced - nothing other than a car engine should be that loud - which is what I thought it was at first. It does turn off quickly after the bathroom light is turned off but some maintenance work is required! Other gripe was the wi-fi - great signal in the public area and nice and fast but didn't reach the bedrooms - I actually got a better signal from the hotel on the other side of the Regent!

Overall, very good, well priced, more facilities than the Lake House, eg. bar, restaurant, big lounge, etc. Recommended, will be back.

We stayed here for two nights, 13th + 14th January for a mini honeymoon and were in room #2. The room was very clean and spacious with all the usual tv and coffee set up. We over looked the small courtyard at the rear, but looking to the right through the trees we could see lake Windermere.

There's a lovely little bar area (where we got a great view of the snow falling!) and also a great restaurant. We ate in the restaurant on one of the nights and the food was fantastic. ESPECIALLY the sticky toffee pudding. On the second night we are out, but when we came back to the hotel we sat in the bar and asked if we could order some sticky toffee pudding, even though it wasn't on the bar menu. 'Of course!' Came the reply. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble.

The breakfast was great too, and there was plenty of choice. (Whisky soaked raisins to warm you before going outside!) The Lake is right across the road, two minutes walk at most. (If you walk slow.) Ambleside itself is about a 20 minute walk away (40 minutes in the snow)

The only downside was that most hotel booking websites advertise the hotel as having an indoor heated swimming pool, but we were informed its been closed for over a year. We were looking forward to plenty of swimming! Obviously not the fault of the hotel. Looking forward to returning in the summer.

We are delighted that you thought The Regent was 'a wonderful place for a getaway' it sounds like you had a really good time and we appreciate you taking the time to tell us all about your stay.
Sorry about the incorrect information about the swimming pool, unfortunately some of these internet sites we have no control over so it is impossible to make any amendments.

Having stayed at this hotel three times we will definitely be staying again. Lovely rooms, good food & fantastic friendly enthusiastic staff. Good location by the lake & the ferries. Breakfast is served until 12 so no need to set your alarm. Plenty of walks directly from the hotel so leave your car & enjoy the surroundings.

Room Tip: Garden rooms are larger & very comfortable.
