“Very poor value for £100/night”
Reviewed August 19, 2013

My husband booked this 'hotel' for our 10th wedding anniversary. I can now see by looking at the website that you may be fooled into thinking this is a luxurious hotel. We were given a pokey dark room that had a tiny bedroom you could not swing a cat in and for £100/night I would imagine that you would expect a hot breakfast. The breakfast is only serve yourself continental and the tables are crammed in - we were told that you may have to stand and wait for a table. The owner I imagine has gone for minimal effort for maximum price when it comes to running her hotel. We told the hotel owner how disappointed with the room we were and she just said 'oh' without any offers to change to a larger room. Some of the rooms are much larger but if you are given a small room then these rooms surely should cost less. Absolutely gutted because we love the lakes and at £100/night this was an extravagant 'treat' for us.

Room Tip: Don't stay in this hotel you may be given a small dark room for the same cost as a larger one.

The weather may have been damp outside, but the staff here are very accommodating and friendly. We really enjoyed our stay here, the bedrooms are spacious, clean and the bed was kingsized and very comfortable. Our bathroom in room 11 was huge and had a spa bath that we enjoyed, careful not to put too much bubble bath in!
The breakfast here is enough for a large appetite, continental style, very satisfying and it's no wonder they have a five star hygiene standard.
We would recommend this b&b as its easy to find, has its own car park, the staff are fantastic and very clean and tidy, the rooms are amongst the biggest we've stayed in and the breakfast is top notch.
Thanks for making our stay wonderful.

We rented out the whole lodge for a family wedding - hugely successful! Staff accommodating and flexible, very friendly especially Carol. Would highly recommend for a family event!! Nothing was too much trouble. Nice central location!

This B and B us excellent. We were made very welcome on arrival by the reception staff and taken to our lovely room. As we had our dog with us we had a ground floor room with private access and wooden floors. The jacuzzi bath was great and lots of storage space. There were also toiletries provided and plenty of tea and coffee in the room. The breakfast was continental and loads of choice. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Really enjoyable 4 night stay. Thanks

Stayed 4 nights. Things I liked - very clean, large comfy bed, lots of storage space for clothes, friendly unhassled staff, location, parking, price, good hairdryer, relaxed atmosphere, pets allowed, good wifi service, large towels.
Didn't like so much - self service breakfast, very warm, room quite small, bathroom expelair seemed poor.
Overall a good place to stay mainly because of price and parking - many b & bs say they have parking in the Lakes but then you have to double park/leave your keys with owner. This place has a spacious car park right by the building. Would definitely stay again for this reason. And I suppose no fried breakfast = less calories for my waistline!!!!!!

Large bright room at front with 4 poster bed. Friendly check in and buffet breakfast was varied good choice. No cooked breakfast but the choice was very satisfactory. Great location as just parked car and everywhere in town was within a short walk.
Very hot weather and like nearly every hotel the same duvet was on the bed year round. All we wanted was a sheet. Ambleside is a great base to tour the lakes and a nice town.

We decided to stay an extra night in the Lake district and found Brathay Lodge quite by surprise. Even though we stayed for one night we were charmed by the warmth and welcoming of the hosts. We had a beautiful room facing the park and the hills - quite generous in size and more than what we expected. The continental breakfast was good and the parking was a breeze. They are also located close to the main street (lots of restaurants, cinema & shops) and yet a bit away from all the noise. We will stay there again if we go back to the Lake district.
