“pleased with last minute booking”

We decided on adding a night to a few days in the lakes and the Skelwith Bridge was the first hotel we looked at on the internet. We were pleasantly surprised by the prices and so decided to give it a go, as it was only one night. We were warmly welcomed and no fuss was made over a change of room arrangements. We had a double and a single and the price for both was less than for most twins in other places. The single was on top of the kitchen fan so there were smells when the window was open, but the double was very pleasant. We had a quiet night, the beds were very comfortable, and although some parts of the hotel are in need of updating it is exceptionally good value for money. Everywhere was very clean and all the staff were pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was very good

Room Tip: Rooms at the back have a pleasant view over trees fields and sheep

My partner and I stayed here with our dog over the bank holiday weekend and had a lovely time. The hotel had some great walks of varying lengths right on the doorstep, our dog had a brilliant time, in fact I think she enjoyed it more than us!
The room was a bit dated but spotlessly clean, we stayed in the Ambleside room in the annexe. It had everything we needed for our stay although it overlooks a road so there was a bit of traffic noise but can't say I noticed it during the night.
We stayed for 2 nights on the deal that included an evening meal. The food was very good with pleny of choice and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Overall a good hotel within a short drive to Grasmere and Ambleside. We would definitely stay again.

Hotel is a bit tired in parts and reception not always manned. Husband had to go and look for someone to give us keys despite ringing the bell at reception. Carpets and corridors need refurbishing but bedroom was a very pleasant surprise. Stayed 2 nights in Room 9 - a deluxe room which was quite spacious, clean and light, with a pleasant view of fields and hills ans wekl stocked with tea, coffee, hot choc etc. It was also above the bar where people sat outside having drinks and looked onto a main road. This did not affect us at all. We had a huge bed which was very comfortable with good quality bedding. Furniture is past its best and bottom of wardrobe was damaged. A little bit of wallpaper was peeling off the wall but the room itself was very pleasant and inviting. The en-suite had a bath with shower over, and a heated towel rail and lovely thick white towels.Toiletries are provided including shower gel, hand and body lotion and handwash. A very pleasant stay which was a special offer of £120 for 2 people per night(min 2 nights) which included breakfast and a 3 course evening meal. Very good value. Food was of high quality but limited menu for vegetarians. Staff very pleasant and efficient,

Room Tip: If you prefer to have a quieter room book a room at front of hotel. Room 9 was overlooking outside s...

Had two nights at this hotel in July, with a friend. What a great value hotel; the rooms were comfortable and spotless, all the staff were friendly and helpful and the food was good. This hotel, about 20 minuits walk out of Ambleside is in a lovely spot and a great base for visiting the surrounding lakes and villages. Great for walking and dog friendly too, which is a bonus!

Friendly and efficient service throughout our stay. Food was first class and good portions. Staff were most helpful at all times. There were 4 of us on a walking weekend. Two stayed in the annex. I found it very quiet although the single room was small. However, as it was only for a couple of nights, this wasn't a problem. Definitely recommend and will be back.

We were expecting a hotel geared towards walkers but it was also much more.

Our deluxe room was large and well furnished. It had a comfortable king-sized bed and excellent bathroom, including a jacuzzi.

The staff were pleasant and efficient. Everything about the place ran well.

Dinners ranged from good to outstanding and the breakfasts were first-class. Both included ample supplies of fresh coffee.

The public areas were comfortable and the adjoining small bar was connected to the Talbot Bar, a large public bar, so a wide range of drinks was available.

Overall, it was as good as we have experienced in the Lakes and much better than some at a similar price
