We have just returned from a 2 night stay at the Wateredge Inn. The accomodation was great, the room was big and very comfortable and all was very clean. The hotel/pub is very dog friendly, We took our 2 cocker spaniels with us (an additional cost of £10) and we were made to feel very welcome by all the staff there. There were always plenty of dog treats available and they even received a breakfast sausage each. We were able to eat in the lower bar area with the dogs.
The bar was modern but very comfortable with big open fires. Breakfast was fantastic and we really enjoyed the food from the evening menu.
The setting of the Inn is beautiful- directly on Windermere and only a short walk to Ambleside.
We would definately recommend Wateredge Inn. All staff were very friendly and helpful. They made it a memorable couple of days for us.

My other half is local to Windermere and he suggested this hotel for an overnight stay as we made our way North.

A different approach for him though - he usually approaches by boat and ties up at the jetty outside.

It was perfect .... a lovely warm welcome on a freezing cold day, prompt service and a faultless bedroom with a very comfy bed and a good shower.

Immaculately clean, the room had everything we needed. A nice touch was the amount of coffee and tea things provided, way above the more usual 'only 2 for you and only 2 for me' tray. And this was one of the basic 'Lakeland' rooms so the others must be spectacular!

We were welcomed in the restaurant by a nice young lad who immediately asked 'did we want some din dins' and then quickly arranged drinks and menus etc. We both chose the 3 bean chili, really good.

Breakfast was served in the same bar with spectacular lakeside views. The usual cereal, yoghurts, fruit etc but then a wide choice of cooked food. He had the full Lakeland breakfast and I tried the smoked haddock with 2 poached eggs - all delicious. Coffee came in a cafetiere. Why can't other hotels make theirs in cafetieres instead of stewing it for hours on a hot plate?

Parking? Easy parking at the back of the hotel. Be aware of leaving the car park though, its a tricky road exit just there.

Would we stay again? Most certainly.

In fact, when he's staying on the boat in cramped low head room conditions, I'll be in the Wateredge with a G and T!!

Room Tip: We had room 10 - a lovely room but right on the edge of the main road. Not a problem in cold and sno...

We decided to beat the post New Year blues by taking a trip to the Lakes and were pleasantly surprised by this fantastic hotel. When we arrived we found the hotel very cosy and warm and our family room was a great size. The views were fantastic overlooking the lake and we loved feeding the ducks and swans by the waters edge. The service was really warm and friendly and the restaurant staff were particularly kind and patient with our toddler. But the best kept secret about the hotel is the food - we had an evening meal and the breakfast the following morning and the quality was fantastic. We will be staying again as we know we receive great value for money and brilliant food and service.

My Husband and I both love the Lake District and try to get up at least once a year. For my husbands birthday this year we decided to go. We stayed at the Waterside inn for one night on January 8th. We have eaten here many times on previous visits but have never stayed. We were in for a wonderful suprise. We had room 30 which had fantastic views of the lake and were treated to one of the best sunsets we had ever seen. The hotel staff were all more than helpful and the evening meal was delicious, i would recomend the posh gammon.

We will deffinately be staying again.

Room Tip: Room 30 excellent view of the lake and a good size

Six adults and one two year old. Even allowing for the fact that this was a slack Sunday night in the first week of January the staff and kitchen still put on a very good display. We hd main courses and drinks only whilst not the cheapest were all good quality and very enjoyable. Would visit again.

We had a 1 night stay bought as a Christmas present. Despite some comments on Tripadvisor, we found Wateredge Inn to be very easy to find, lovely, clean, spacious room (we stayed in the annexe) and a beautiful location right next to the lake and 200 yards from the pier for Lake Windermere tour boats.

A visit to the restaurant for evening meal resulted in us having lovely hot soup with 'artisan' bread, venison, rhubarb & apple crumble with custard, a bottle of wine & Irish coffees. Every part of the meal was excellent, though the desserts were quite large and we struggled (but succeeded) in finishing them...you have been warned! It was a little bit pricey but, in our opinion, probably worth it.

Breakfast was very nicely cooked and there was fruit & cereals too. Not a massive choice but probably more than enough to meet most people's needs. The quantity filled us up for the rest of the day.

Staff were friendly and helpful and weren't intrusive as can sometimes be the case in some places.

We found the bed & pillows in our room to be very comfortable, though obviously 'comfortable bed' is all things to all men (& women). There was a sitting area with a small table, flatscreen TV, tea & coffee facilities and space for the bags/cases in an alcove. We didn't find an iron or an ironing board but believe these are available at reception.
Because our room was on the ground floor, there was a small garden area outside.

There was a possible 'downside' for some people that is mentioned in other reviews . The annexe IS next to (and CLOSE to) a road. During the evening and from around 7 a.m. you CAN hear traffic passing. Through the night I never heard anything at all as it was very quiet. Some people may find this annoying (though it didn't bother us).
The main road to Ambleside (A591) is a different route at the end of the street and the road next to Wateredge is more of a back road (A5095) so it wasn't as busy as the main A591.

The hotel is dog friendly, which wasn't a problem except that some dining area staff were stroking the dogs & feeding them leftover titbits. I hope that close attention to hand washing was happening somewhere BEFORE further handling / serving food. Perhaps something for management to investigate?.

There is limited access to passes for the leisure centre in Ambleside. This is about a mile away.

Overall a lovely place to stay, good food, great location. We will be back!

Room Tip: The annexe is next to the road and may be an issue to some people. There is a large extractor from t...

We stayed here for 3 nights as part of a several week car tour of UK, the hotel claims to be 4 star but while very clean it could only get 3 stars from us. The room was OK but could not get one heater to work, the towel rack was not turned on when we arrived and had to get staff to do this, they did without delay but no-one showed us to our room so we did not know the workings. The Bar and restaurant are good and breakfast was better than good, service was acceptable.

Room Tip: not able to advise but if you have sizeable luggage as we did try to get a room on a lower floor as...
