Having had afternoon tea at many Hotels around the country I decided to treat my family to afternoon tea while on holiday in the Lake District. I was not sure what to expect for a £15 buffet style tea where you can visit the buffet table as many times as you wish. On arrival we were greeted by a very friendly receptionist and waitress who presented us with a choice of "Special Teas". The waitress then took us through to a room where the buffet was been served. Sadly, I feel this was the moment where our special occasion tea started to go down hill. I would like to say that the disappointment was not entirely with the food but the way the food was presented in an old chilled unit, and where sandwiches where wrapped in cling film. The choice of fillings for the sandwiches could clearly be better, but the cake selection appeared to be a real winner amongst guests. The £15 eat as much as you like buffet does offer great value for money, however for me an afternoon Tea in the beautiful surroundings of a fine hotel is a special occasion that friends and family will remember and talk about for a very long time. Give us the "finger sandwiches" and dainty cakes that we all love so much even if this means an increase in price or limiting guests to just one visit to the buffet table. This would then be a tea to remember for a very long time. Sorry, but please return the chilled unit back to the kitchens and instead serve your new delights on china cake stands. Come on its time for change.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Rothay Manor. The hotel is very well located to experience the Lake district. The rooms are large and pleasantly decorated. We stayed in a superior room which was worth the extra cost and looked out onto the lovely garden. . The meals were very good and catered well for my wifes gluten free diet. The service was very good and car parking easy.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 5 which was excellent.

After being given a gift voucher for an afternoon tea we decided to go to Rothay Manor. It was a very civilised and pleasant experience. There is a very good choice of teas and all the food is on a buffet. This is ideal as you can have as much or as little as you like. All the homemade cakes and scones were delicious. My only comment would be that the sandwiches were all mixed on one plate and difficult to see what all the fillings were. The lounges are very comfortable and the ambience is relaxed. The service was very friendly and helpful. I would reccommend this as a nice treat either to give someone or just to treat yourself.
