“The Perfect Retreat”

My wife and I have just returned from the Lake District where we spent a week at Riverside. It was our first visit there and we were delighted by the warmth, hospitality, food and attention to detail. Brenda and Dave obviously work very hard to make all their guests feel at home . The breakfasts were excellent and the room that we had was extremely comfortable and well-equipped. The location of 'Riverside' is very convenient, both for strolling into Ambleside and for exploring that area of the Lake District. We will definitely recommend 'Riverside' to our friends.

We regularly visit Ambleside and have stayed at numerous
b&b's,but found Riverside the best out of all of them. Dave and Brenda are perfect hosts, very friendly and informative. They make you feel at home straight away and go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. I have severe food allergies and they excelled at looking after my dietary requirements and as you will find in the previous reviews breakfast was superb.
The room was great and we found the minor details: tealights on the doorsteps at night, scented candles in the porch, torches to use at night, umbrellas for the rain, maps of local walks, lit candles in the lounge in the evening and the sweets at the entrance all fantastic, fantastic, fantastic.
We will be back and if you are reading this you should book too.

My fiance and I have just returned from the Lake District, spending 3 nights at Riverside. We received a warm welcome the minute we arrived and this level of hospitality continued throughout our stay. Nothing seemed to be too much for Dave and Brenda.

Do not go if you're on a diet though - the breakfasts are AMAZING!!! The home-made bread is delicious - our personal favourite was the cranberry and pistachio, but this was closely followed by honey and sunflower. MMMMM!!!

Riverside is a beautiful house. Our room was spotless and had views of the garden to the side and the river to the front. There's plently of information on things to do in the main lounge.

Dave and Brenda called us by our first names throughout our stay, which is a really nice touch given they must speak to hundreds of people in a holiday season. There was a print out of the news, as well as a weather report on the breakfast table every morning (unfortunately the rain forecast was accurate, however this wasn't our host's fault!).

It's the little things that make a stay and we'll be sure to revisit Dave and Brenda when we next go back to the Lake District.

After reading previous reviews we opted for Riverside Hotel, and an excellent choice it turned out to be. Brenda & Dave are the perfect people to run one of the finest establishments we have visited, in what is a great British tradition, the B&B. Both hosts are friendly without being intrusive. The location was ideal for us, 10 minutes pleasant walk along the river from town. The room was very comfortable and we felt at home right away. The breakfast at Riverside have been commented on, and rightly so. Delicious and hearty fare. We will be back.

My family and I have stayed at the Riverside many times since we saw the excellent review in the Guardian. The Riverside is almost certainly the best B&B I have ever stayed in. Brenda and Dave are welcoming, helpful and make you feel relaxed as soon as you arrive. Breakfast is gorgeous and the menu is thoughtful and lovely including my husband's favourite sausages!! The rooms are really well decorated and perfectly clean but also homely and bright. We always leave our long weekends by re-booking to come back and feeling refreshed and happy.

It was our first time in the Lake district and me and my Partner were going for a wedding, so after checking numerous hotels and seeing some rather expensive prices, we came across the Riverside on Tripadvisor

After reading the reviews i was impressed and called the hotel directly, when i got through spoke to Brenda who was lovely and booked my room.

On Arrival we were Greeted by the excellent hosts Brenda and Dave who knew our names straight away and offered help with the bags and then gave us a brief about the area and showed us to our room no1. on seeing the room it was beautiful as you can see by the pictures, every night we cold hear the river outside our window and the area is so quiet also, it was prefect

The Breakfast was amazing full english with home made bread and the weather and news reports printed for us, with nothing any trouble for the hosts.

The surrounding area a 10 to 15 minute walk to ambleside but through a lovely country lane with a lovely lttle river and views

I wuld recommend if you are taking a trip to Ambleside to definately stay here, the service and hospitality you will receice from Dave and Brenda is top class and me and my Partner will be going back as soon as we can!
