“A touch of British excellence”

After reading previous reviews we opted for Riverside Hotel, and an excellent choice it turned out to be. Brenda & Dave are the perfect people to run one of the finest establishments we have visited, in what is a great British tradition, the B&B. Both hosts are friendly without being intrusive. The location was ideal for us, 10 minutes pleasant walk along the river from town. The room was very comfortable and we felt at home right away. The breakfast at Riverside have been commented on, and rightly so. Delicious and hearty fare. We will be back.

My family and I have stayed at the Riverside many times since we saw the excellent review in the Guardian. The Riverside is almost certainly the best B&B I have ever stayed in. Brenda and Dave are welcoming, helpful and make you feel relaxed as soon as you arrive. Breakfast is gorgeous and the menu is thoughtful and lovely including my husband's favourite sausages!! The rooms are really well decorated and perfectly clean but also homely and bright. We always leave our long weekends by re-booking to come back and feeling refreshed and happy.

It was our first time in the Lake district and me and my Partner were going for a wedding, so after checking numerous hotels and seeing some rather expensive prices, we came across the Riverside on Tripadvisor

After reading the reviews i was impressed and called the hotel directly, when i got through spoke to Brenda who was lovely and booked my room.

On Arrival we were Greeted by the excellent hosts Brenda and Dave who knew our names straight away and offered help with the bags and then gave us a brief about the area and showed us to our room no1. on seeing the room it was beautiful as you can see by the pictures, every night we cold hear the river outside our window and the area is so quiet also, it was prefect

The Breakfast was amazing full english with home made bread and the weather and news reports printed for us, with nothing any trouble for the hosts.

The surrounding area a 10 to 15 minute walk to ambleside but through a lovely country lane with a lovely lttle river and views

I wuld recommend if you are taking a trip to Ambleside to definately stay here, the service and hospitality you will receice from Dave and Brenda is top class and me and my Partner will be going back as soon as we can!

We stayed at Riverside for 2 nights in July.

Dave and Brenda were extremely welcoming hosts who clearly know the importance of the personal touch.

The residents lounge is a 'home from home' and is well stocked with the information you should require of the surrounding area, ranging from high level walks to advice on where to go for the best cream tea!!

This local knowledge is extremely useful to ensure you are able to gain the most from your stay.

The rooms were spotless...nice additional touches of water and wine glasses. The rear of the house lends itself to a nice glass of rose after a long hard day in the coffee shops.....I mean on the fells! ;-)

Thanks Dave and Brenda.....we will be back!

Riverside. Ambleside, Cumbria.
Date. 30th July 2008
Reviewer. John and Janet, Brighouse.
Returned from visiting the Riverside for the third time on the 21st and 22nd of July 08. Once again we have had a wonderful time and again made to feel very welcome by Dave and Brenda the proprietors.
Riverside is in a super location within 10 mins walk from the town centre and it is oh so peaceful. Plenty of private parking for visitors. The accommodation is very well appointed and very very clean and homely. English breakfast is included in the price and as previously stated is healthily cooked local or home made food. There are lots of other breakfast alternatives to a full English, you certainly will not go hungry. Ther is no bar at Riverside but should you require beer wine or the like Dave will supply it from his bar menu. Very nice to sit in the garden with a local beer and the paper after a long walk.
Riverside is located ideally for several Ambleside walks or within driving range of the whole lake district.
Ambleside itself has numerous restaurants to cater for all tastes.
We shall be returning again.

We have just visted Brenda and Dave at the Riverside Hotel Ambleside for our 7th (yes, 7th) stay! We are always made to feel so welcome when we stay, and Brenda and Dave put so much hard work into everything right down to the smallest details -everything is provided for a wonderfully comfortable stay. Wonderful breakfasts freshly cooked and the smell of homemade bread every morning! The location is fantastic, only a 10 minute walk to Ambleside's centre and set aside the river. You feel as though you are the only hotel at this location as it is so peaceful. The rooms are lovely and very comfortable and attention to detail is second to none. The walks are wonderful from the Riverside, under Loughrigg, Skelwith Bridge, Ambleside to Grasmere - all fantastic. Ambleside is also quite central to a lot of fells and therefore easy to get around to those more adventureous walks.

We can't wait for our 8th visit - but Shhhhhhh! don't tell too many people because it is 'our' haven!!!!

My wife and I stayed at the Riverside from 9 to 10 July. It's in a beautiful location, with hills behind the property and a river running in front of it. The interior of the house is done us very cosily and there's plenty of materials on the Lake District to help you plan your stay in the Lake District. Our room was very nicely furnished as well, and we particularly loved the toiletries provided. We walked to Ambleside for dinner, which is an easy 15 minute walk along the River Rothay and through Rothay Park. The next morning, we woke up to a fantastic cooked breakfast that included home yummy made orange bread! I am not normally a bread fan, but we finished all the orange bread made by Brenda!

As we only spent a night in the Lake District on this trip (our main focus was to go golfing in Scotland after flying into Manchester), we'll be sure to return to the Riverside for an encore on our next visit.
