Found this restaurant as walking up the main street. Loved the menu it had a excellent range of prices and wines. starter good, lamb chops were brilliant with red wine sauce as a main meal. Dessert was also good the sticky toffee pudding was served with cream and ice-cream had with nicely priced bottle of house merlot. The staff looked like they had good experience, which made them lovely and would enjoy having a sweet conversation to you. They were very polite. I would recommend Ambles.

Ate here twice in a week. A good menu, with an emphasis on fresh vegetables with potatoes rather than chips. Beautifully cooked food, and friendly and quick service. A slight moan, a table for 2 can only just accommodate plates, serving dish and glasses, a tiny bit squashed, but this cannot detract from the food.

Great food, fast service, small tables. Not much to look at from the outside, and lacking a bit of atmosphere inside, but great food & fast service made up for it.

I understand these guys have been doing this for the better part of 25 years. Family business - looks like he cooks and she is front of house. Very friendly and assured, reasonably priced no nonsense, largely traditional English style home cooking.

The meal was good value and lots of it, the staff were very friendly and helpful. We went for the special had homemade soup which was very hot and tasty with some lovely fresh bread and the lamb chop with came with lots of veg, really good portions all cooked very nicely. It was a shame the special was the same all week. This is not a posh place but we would recommend it. We ate early after a hard days walking, this place had a steady stream of people, lots trying the special.
