“We were very well at Rothay Garth!”
Reviewed July 14, 2012

Rothay Garth is managed by the Dixon family.
They are all very very nice, very kind and welcoming.
We stayed in room 18, a little apartment with a lounge with sofa and TV, a large bathroom with jacuzzi and a large bedroom with a double and a single bed. It has a private entrance. Everything was perfect and very comfortable for us except a couple of details, such as the wardrobe that is a bit small, and the abscence of a bathroom cabinet.
There was also a back door on the rear garden which can be useful.
We requested a cot and a high chair for our baby when we booked and we were provided with both. Also we asked to heat the room the first days we arrived because it was a bit too cold and they did it immediately.
The great thing about Rothay Garth is that for long staying they provide a complimentary packed lunch every day! This made us save a lot of money. I think other free services are available, such as flask filling, but we didn't ask for them.
The house is very nice, with a beautiful garden and a beautiful breakfast room situated in the veranda. Also the public lounge is very big and very nice with light blue sofas and armchairs and a big bow window.
The house is situated south of Ambleside, 2 minutes walk from the centre, where you can find lots of restaurants, but in a calm and silent place, in front of pitch and putt golf.
We had an excellent stay and would definitely come back. We miss it!!!

This is a great location in the centre of town. Great welcome by staff who love their job and nothing is too much trouble. Bedrooms with some great views and up to date bathrooms of ample proportions. Breakfast second to none at this price with the full English grilled to perfection with toast. Serve yourself coffee so no rationing experienced in other B&Bs.
Parking on site brilliant and flexibility around departure and arrival times. Hard to beat.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a view if you can it is worth it.

We recently had a two night break at the Rothay Garth and were very impressed. The position is excellent, very close to the town centre and with ample car parking. We received a very warm welcome, shown round the place and then to our room (we'd gone for a superior). The room was great, a good size and very clean. The breakfasts are fantastic with a lovely fruit salad and the platter cooked to perfection. The owners are lovely, very friendly and with plenty of recommendations on where to eat. We'd definitely return.

Room Tip: We opted for a superior room with a wonderful king sized bed.

Having visited Ambleside years ago, and our usual B and B no longer in operation, we have been trying to find another little haven, and we have found it!
The location is perfect - close to all amenities.
The hosts are great, friendly, helpful and cannot do enough for you. The rooms are comfortable, warm and clean. The breakfast is fab! and the pack lunches are well worth having. The garden is an asset too, supping a G and T after a long walk, reading the days paper in the sun.
Great place to stay!

Room Tip: a little noisy on the front!

Just wanted to post a review on here, to express what an excellent stay we had at this little gem in Ambleside.
From arrival to departrure nothing was too much trouble. This is a family run guest house and the owners are so chatty and friendly. Always jolly and making you feel at ease and comfortable in their home.
Upon arrival Anna greeted us and showed us to our rooms as well as explaining the layout of the guesthouse, where the breakfast was served, the lounge etc.
As we were travelling with a little dog we were allocated a downstairs room, which was very spacious and cosy. The other couple in the party had a four-poster upstairs with excellent fell views.
Breakfast had to rated as A+++ better than any other place we have stayed, and certainly better than any top notch over priced hotel. Proper fresh fruit salad no tinned orange segments, and the eggs were cooked to perfection, the bacon and sausage were premium quality, nothing was too much trouble.
Our package included a daily packed lunch, which was fab when out and about exploring the Lake District. We had a picnic at Rydal Water, and Tarn Hows which was most enjoyable. Many Thanks to Laura for the packed lunches! As our little dog is a fussy eater, Janet accommodated this and cooked some of his favourite food!
The attention to detail and helpfulness of the team here at the Rothay Garth has to be given much recognition.
Across the road from the Rothay Garth was a large park, where we could exercise our dog. Overall everything was on the door step…..short walk to excellent eateries, and a very central location to explore the Lake District.
There was a private off road car park, which was an added bonus.
To sum up…….The Rothay Garth is an excellent family run B&B, central location, private parking, a real home from home. Thanks Rowland, Janet, Laura & Anna for everything. Hope to visit again really soon!
