Lovely clean hotel in an excellent location, food is good, service is great and leisure facilities just add to the overall enjoyment of the stay. Had a great time and really enjoyed having a spa treatment and my early morning swims before breakfast.

Just returned from an overnight bed and breakfast stay at the Salutation Hotel Ambleside. Yet again a really lovely relaxing stay. The hotel has a home from home feel and all the staff seem to make every effort to ensure the guests do feel at home. We enjoyed our afternoon in the pool area which is of a 5 star standard and then our evening in the Bistro. Our room 116 was lovely, clean and spacious and can be highly recommended. Breakfast at the Salutation is superb. As always an excellent stay. Looking forward to a return visit.

Room Tip: An upgrade to a club room is well worth the extra money.

Though we are regular visitors to the Lake District this was our first stay at The Salutation at Ambleside. What a wonderful experience!! The reception staff were extremely helpfull and the service was excellent. The breakfast is worth booking in for and there is plenty of selection to suit every palate. A relaxing soak in the outdoor hot tub is a must after a day romping round the fells. We used the swimming pool, steam room and jacuzzi, and the following morning we even had a pre-breakfast work-out in the gym! No visit to the Salutation would be complete without an indulgent treatment at Oxley's Blue Fish Spa. The facial and full body massage are just wonderful!! Would recommend this hotel to anyone!!

Delighted with all your comments and pleased to hear you have booked to visit agian in April. Thank you for the kind comments about our staff we have a great team and I agree the hot tub is a must after a hard day on the fells. Oxley's is a fantastic asset to the hotel and the treatments are fabulous - although I have yet to try a facial myself! We have worked really hard on our breakfast so i'm glad you enjoyed it, I look forward to welcoming you back in April.

We had looked at staying here on previous trips to the Lakes, but could never get a single night - you had to book two or more - this time we did. It has a perfect position at the top of the town, and we parked easily around the back. We got in early too, but our room was quite small, barely enough room to walk at the bottom of the bed. Maybe we were unlucky with our room, maybe its because of its central location, but it felt cramped. The bed and pillows were a little firm for us, and the bed quite small again, but eveythign else about the room was fine. There are some other odd quirks - the lift is made of glass, no problem, but while we were there at least, every hallway was full of old furniture, making the wide hallways quite narrow. Very strange.

However, the gym was excellent, especially the outdoor Canadian hot tub, where you can listen to the river running past. And breakfast was amazing, even for the standard generally foudn in the Lakes.

So overall, very good, excellent in parts, but our single night cost £132 ! I think the hotel was full, in February as well, so people must pay it, but this is just too much. How can they justify this when the rooms are cramped ? What else are we paying for ? Lots of staff certainly, but little else to justify a top rating.

Room Tip: We had room 219 and it was tiny. I hear the club rooms are better, but of course they are even more.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review and for your kind comments about our location, breakfast and lesuire facilities and that you found your overall stay with us good and excellent in parts. All our classic rooms of which 219 is have king sized bed and I am sorry you found the room to be cramped, I have noted your coment about the pillows asnd we have just invested in new pillows (as well as new beds our Club rooms have now super king beds and our single rooms have a strandard double bed) so we can offer our guest's the option of firm or soft pillows.I'm pleased you found our lift a little quirky, as it runs up the main stair well which has limited space (you should have seen us getting it in!) we thought a glass option would make it look more open.We do have fuirnature on the corridors for decoration during your stay we did have a little more as one of our rooms was undergoing some refurbishments, apologies for any inconveince this may have caused. With regards to our rates for a one night Saturday stay in Feburay (a very busy month for the Lakes) I think our rates are in line with other hotels in the area, when you look at the facilities we have to offer lounges, bar, lesuire car park. Our Club rooms are bigger and many with balconys they do have a supplement charge but they have super king beds, bottled water, bathrobes, slippers and are very popular with our guest's.Your feedback is important to us and I would like to thank you once again and hope that we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back to stay with us in the future.

Our first time at this hotel we had one night 14/02/2013. The decor and furnishings are good with very high standards of cleanliness in our room and public areas. We had a standard room which was a bit cramped on one side which could be resolved with a little furniture moves. Evening meal was very good although some items of the cooked breakfast were cold despite very hot plates. Service at reception was very good and the restaurant good and polite. The low spot was the bar service. We had to wait a long time for a drink whilst the lady on duty prepared hot drinks for other guests, but she did not make any attempt to explain the delay, thank us for waiting or offer an appology. Her sevice was indifferent and void of any attempt to offer any acceptable level of customer service. As a valentine's night surprise my wife ordered from the bar a small bottle of cava and asked for it to be brought to our dinner table for only me and she explained that it was for one person as she does not drink cava, what we got was 2 glasses just put on our table by one of the restaurant waiters, it spoiled the surprise. We will stay here again but will expect good to great service in all areas.

May I apologise for the shortfall in service you experienced in the bar, I understand that the Manager on duty has been in touch to discuss the points in your review and I would like to thank you for taking the time to go over them. This must be about my 10th trip or more to The Salutation and I still have been unable to find anything to fault it for. Great rooms, great staff, perfect location, brilliant pool saunas gym etc for a lakes hotel and what an incredible breakfast ....

Thanks to all the staff here that make it a pleasure to visit
