Would I recommend? Absolutely. We stayed in one of the Club rooms which we found perfectly lovely. Comfy bed, nice sized room, clean and a great bathroom with correctly placed lighting (round the mirror facing you). Breakfast was superb, continental served from the buffet table and a bread buffet with a wide variety of breads, croissants, muffins and delicious banana cake. Cooked choices were cooked to order and served at the table. Spa area was very clean and provided a nice respite after a day's hill walking.
Dinner choices in the hotel were agreeable, for something a bit special we enjoyed a lovely meal at the Rothay Manor Hotel 10 mins walk away and should you wish to push the boat out - try the Gilpin Lodge Hotel for a meal.

Our third visit to this lovely hotel. We love the location and the pool is an added bonus. It was great to see the christmas decorations even if it was for just one day. Certainly would consider a Christmas or New Year break.
Once again very comfortable room, great shower and delicious food. We ate in the bistro one evening and thought the set menu was excellent value. Would definitely eat in again.
All in all a great short break.

My girlfriend and I wanted a night away to somewhere we hadn't been before and neither of us had been to Lake District. I was looking for a hotel in a central location quite close to the lake and this really delivers on that aspect.

The walk to the lake only took around 15-20 minutes down one of the main roads and the hotel is surrounded by lots of places to eat and drink. The town is also quiet compared to Windermere and not so commercial.

Best Westerns are generally quite reliable for quality in my opinion and that's another reason I chose this hotel. The room decor was quite average and dated in places but it was quiet and comfortable so couldn't ask for much more. The bathroom all looked brand new which was a big plus point, with a modern shower and jacuzzi bath.

The leisure facilities are great, with a big pool, outdoor hot tub, sauna and steam room. Unfortunately the sauna was closed and there were some people that stayed in the hot tub for well over 2 hours, which was a little disappointing.

The breakfast was great with a buffet and table service. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Parking was also right next to the hotel and it was easy to find a space. I would stay there again but maybe upgrade to one of the bigger rooms.

Room Tip: The standard rooms are a bit average for the money. It's probably worth upgrading to one of the bigger rooms.

My family and I stayed at the Salutation Hotel for 3 days over New Year 2012/13 and had three bedrooms. The hotel is situated in an excellent location and offers free car parking for guests. Check-in was swift, and staff very friendly. Upon arrival at our room we were given gifts and treats which was such a lovely gesture. All three bedrooms were very small, and the décor and furniture very dated. We did feel the bedrooms were a huge let down. We found faults in two of the three bedrooms, we had mould in our room and could only open one wardrobe door plus the bathroom offered no space to place toiletries. The second bedroom had a small narrow bathroom and a family member found difficulties using the facilities. Refurbishment much needed in some rooms. On a positive note, everything was very clean, good quality towels and linen, and the beds were very comfy. If you wanted bigger rooms maybe the upgrade would be worth considering. The bar area and lounges are very modern, cosy and inviting and the restaurant has the same feel also. For New Year we were treated to a Gala meal, music, dancing, bag pipes and fire works. New years day we had the pleasure of a wonderful magician who came to entertain us, a lovely gesture from the hotel, and a very talented magician. All our meals were of a good standard, possibly not the most generous portions compared to other hotels for our evening meals however, breakfast was an absolute delight with plenty of choice, good quality food and drinks and fast service from staff. The Salutation Hotel has a home from home feel, and you do feel you are a special guest of theirs when your there. It's great to be treated to gifts and small treats upon your stay, maybe more so at Christmas & New Year - I know not many hotels offer that service anymore so I would recommend this hotel for its location, hospitality and for dining.

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade at the first instance, if not price up how much it will cost. Upgrades have better views also. If you need a walk in shower only certain rooms have them. Ask staff for advise.

Many thanks for your view, firsty please accept my sincere apologies, I am really sorry your rooms did not come up to your expectations during your New Year stay with us. We do run a rolling refurbishment programme to ensure no room is more than 3 years old in decor etc and employ a full time painter & decorator , plumber and maintenance staff. If you could contact me direct at the hotel to discuss the details of the rooms as your feedback would be most valuable . I can then ensure they are priorty for the next phase. I am sorry we failed to come up to the mark with the rooms during your stay but from your other comments you enjoyed our New Year celebrations, its a really popular package with many returning guest's and I do hope you will return to the hotel for another stay.
