High standard of rooms and facilities. Gorgeous view over looking the lake, situated near little shops, a pub, cafe and stop for boat trip. Staff extremely friendly, go the extra mile in ensuring you have a nice stay. Would definitely recommend!

This was uor third stay at the hotel and once again had a great two day break. We did not have breakfast this visit so had late lazy mornings,no hassle by the chambermaids to make up the room we were left in peace. The room was tidy and clean and chocolates were left on the pillows on an evening, the staff are friendly and always smiling,we will be back.

Room Tip: Lake view of course but ask not to be over the entrance to the car park or near the kitchens.

My daughter and I stayed at the Waterhead for two nights on a deal which I received by email as I had previously stayed at Storrs Hall. It included breakfast both mornings and evening meal on our first night. I thought we would probably be told that we could only choose from a limited selection on the menu but this was not the case, nothing was off limits and the food was delicious. The hotel is in a fantastic location for exploring the Southern Lakes just opposite the ferry pier at Ambleside, rooms very comfortable with everything you would expect plus a few you wouldn't such as Grasmere gingerbread ( what a good marketing idea, one taste and we stopped off in Grasmere to buy some) a filled ice bucket and a fully stocked fruit bowl.I'm glad I paid the extra supplement for a lake view room as I noticed that some rooms were overlooking the car park or road at the back. The staff were very attentive, helpful and friendly....hopefully we will be going back for another stay later in the year.

Just returned from the Waterhead - our 2nd visit and just gets better. The service is excellent and rooms beautiful, with cosy log effect heater just perfect after a long day on the fells. The location is ideal ,and views brathtaking from lakes view bedroom. Close to all bars and resturaunts, although the Bistro in the hotel is very good.

Room Tip: Ask for lake View its worth it.

What an absolute gem of a discovery. My husband and I travelled with four friends for a two night stay at the Waterhead and what a beautiful hotel it is.

The rooms were very comfortable and stylish with a luxury ensuite bathroom with underfloor heating. One of the best hotel rooms I have stayed in.

The breakfasts are brilliant and we ate our evening meal on both nights at the hotel and one word can describe it "SUPERB". The staff are friendly and attentive and Iwould certainly recommend this hotel to anyone. Cannot wait for a return visit.

Its a long time since my wife and I stayed at Ambleside and this hotel provided a very warm welcome. This is lovely old slate building overlooking Lake Windermere at Ambleside. We stayed here on a two night weekend break. We had a lovely room with many contemporary touches overlooking the Lake. The bed was very comfortable, the furniture modern, plenty of mirrors, a nice plasma screen TV positioned on the wall at the end of the bed. They even provided binoculars to admire the distant views across the Lake. The Bathroom had a double ended Bath with a powerful shower over, and the contemporary look was completed with a chrome plated spiral radiator. The Bar was especially nice with direct access to the front of the building which overlooked the Lake. The restaurant was bright and modern also with fine views of the Lake. The menu had a good choice of dishes which would satisfy most hungry appetites, and the Wine List was comprehensive with wines listed by Country. We had the scallops which were served with black pudding and mashed potato, and was divine. Our mains consisted of salmon with Dauphinois potatoes which my wife enjoyed, and I had the Baked Sole which came complete " on the Bone " which whilst I enjoyed, I think should have been pointed out at the point of ordering. This is a favourite dish of mine which I often order and cant remember the last time was served "on the bone'. However I must stress I still enjoyed. The puddings were a big temptation, but we hadn't left enough room and had to forgo. There is a good choice of breakfasts on offer were beautifully prepared and a great start to the day. It has to be noted that the staff including the Dining Staff seemed to always go beyond the norm to satisfy most requests and never did an request seem to be a bother. We really enjoyed our stay, the hotel, and the place, and are already looking forward to our return.
