“Amazing hotel”

This hotel is one of the best I've ever stayed in. Booked it for a surprise for my boyfriends birthday and we were not disappointed at all. I paid £20 extra and took our dog, money well spent, she was provided with her own bed, bowl and treats. Only downside to the room was that it had a cream carpet(!) so we had to be extremely careful of her muddy feet after our walks. Rooms were lovely with everything you could possibly need, including fluffy robes and slippers. We stayed in room 5 which looked over the lake and even though it rained, the view was incredible. Ice was provided in a bucket on both days and very impressive tea&coffee facilities provided in room. We had our meal included on first night and we were very impressed, the choice and quality of food was very high standard. They made the dessert special for my boyfriends birthday, which was a really nice touch. Breakfasts were equally impressive. The hotel has a vast selection of dvd's available to borrow for rainy days. Each room had a dvd player. They had very comfy beds and it was lovely and warm in our room. The hotel was also decorated gorgeous for Christmas. All in all we loved this hotel and the staff were amazing, it made a very memorable birthday trip. We will definitely return soon.

Every Xmas we party with friends (8 of us) and stay overnight somewhere not too far from home.
The Waterhead was an excellent party night, the food was top-notch and the party night size (about 100 people) was just right. There were some issues with the disco but we sorted that with the staff and everything was then fine..... waht you want is the on-duty staff to respond to yours and others complaints immediately.
None of our party had actually stayed at the hotel although we have used the ELH sister hotels before.... it was very good, we all had good rooms which overlooked the lake, which of course in December was very grey and cold looking, but the hotel was warm and welcoming. The rooms are very stylish and the bathrooms perfect but because the hotel is in an old 'villa' style building the rooms vary in size and layout but nobody complained that their room was too small.
The breakfast was excellent with lots of buffet choice and then freshly cooked options including full Cumbtian, kippers and smoked haddock etc.
We'd certainly consider this hotel again anytime of year or for another Xmas party night.

We stayed two days b&b at this hotel. It was freezing cold outside but lovely and warm inside. The view of the lake from our bedroom window felt very special. It is only a short walk, a matter of a few steps to get to the jetty on the lake where you can get a boat across the lake if you so wish. I just loved watching the birds who flock to the shore in hope of food.
We had a fine room. Spotlessly clean with Hi definition television and a very large double bed. we have never slept so well. I want one at home! The tea, coffee station was replaced regularly and we also got the famous gingerbread.
The staff were very attentive and pleasant.
The food we found to be of a very high standard.
What is not to like about this hotel? We have visited before and will doubtless visit again, in the winter when the snow sits on the mountain tops.

Room Tip: ask if there is a room facing the lake available

Just returned from a 2 night break with my hubby and dog. Staff and manager very friendly couldn't do enough for us. Room was really big and very clean with superb views of the snow covered mountains. The food is lovely. Overall we had a really good experience and couldn't fault anything, will definitely be going back soon

Great break at New Year meeting friends old and new. Staff excellent as always. If anything the food was better this year. Very attentive staff in housekeeping who look out for my 87 year old mother which is much appreciated.

Room Tip: All rooms are good. We like a lakeside view which is extra but well worth it.

We stayed at the Waterhead in the New Year and had a fabulous time. We were hotel bound much of the time due to my husband's mobility issues but the hotel staff were lovely and very accommodating and helped us feel relaxed with their warm manner and approach. Nothing was too much trouble. We had ease of access around the hotel with a lift down to the restaurant and disabled parking.
The food was fantastic and lots of it. We were too full from the night before to really get stuck into breakfast! There was a lovely atmosphere in both the restaurant or bar area. Already looking at going back!

Stayed for a weekend back in 2001 and only returned for a weekend in 2013, the hotel has had a major refurb since we last stayed. Had a classic room, and everything was clean and fairly new. I liked the clean kettle and coffee/tea pots left for you with Gingerbread, lovely! I also liked the turn down service with chocs on the pillow, and also they replenished the cups and pots used. Best was Sam the dog, do not disturb, cute! Will return.
