I recently stayed here for 2 nights, after reading some of the reviews I thought it was a gamble, but it was a gamble that paid off, for all the idiots that moan, try reading the website, you get exactly what you're told, the rooms are clean and to a high standard, the location is in the centre of town, there is a great restaurant underneath, and a lively bar next door (we were there mid week and they had a great band on) I can't fault anything about the place, if you want a hotel, don't stay here, but if you like independence and cheap good quality rooms, this place is a must, i'd stay here again

I wrote a review after my sister and i stayed in this hotel for 3 nights during August 2012. The review has not appeared on any website. We were in a room which I think was similar to a prison cell. the window opened 2 inches and was facing a wall so there was no view and very little light. there was a cupboard with 6 old hangers in it, not a single shelf or drawer and we had to keep everything in our cases or on the floor. I caught sight of 2 other rooms which were luxury in comparison and on speaking to a chambermaid about our room, she answered impertinently saying that if she was staying, she 'would get up early and go out walking' then walked away from us. Staff from the restaurant were shouting and swearing at night somewhere at the back but of course we couldn't see; the bathroom door squeaked and the walls were like paper. There were no staff in charge on the premises; the television was not working and there were no controls for the sound.. I do not believe that this room could possibly have ever been vetted as a suitable room for guests. We couldn't work the drinks machine until the last evening and there was no-one to show us. the staircase and landing were frowsty and stale and all the lights were dim. the room cost £60 a night. NEVER stay there! .

Ambleside Central was a nice place to stay. The room was decorated to a nice standard, and was lovely and clean. Ideal central location. Would definitely go back to this hotel again. We checked in in the hotel next door and chose to eat there that nite. The meal was very nice highly recommended.

A lovely spacious room which was nicely decorated. Location was second to none for all the lovely pubs, restuarants and cafes in Ambleside. A lovely warm welcome. Very reasonably priced given the going rate in the Lakes, particularly in high season.

Just got back yesterday after two nights at this hotel, what a great location right in the centre of the village with all the fab restaurants and bars a step away. The check in is unusual, in the restaurant, but sorted in a couple of minutes, the parking is a little walk away but parking is an issue in the lakes so grateful for a parking space. Our room was room 10, lovely and clean and very nicely decorated, very clean and comfy bed. No tea or coffee in room but a very good drinks machine on every landing, good quality coffee with lots of choices. As a previous reviewer has said, the only issue i could think is the heavy victorian doors do slam at times, but hey they are fire doors and some people are just noisy! All in all a great stay and would definitely stay there again, PS booked a table in Tarentella restaurant downstairs on saturday night, really lovely, and if you want to eat there you have to book, saw lots of people turned away.

Really nice simple room with en suite facility. The lack of staff, reception lobby etc is not a problem at all. The only thing that spoiled the stay was the noise. We were staying at the front of the hotel on the 2nd floor and could hear everything outside even with the windows closed. There was also a lot of noise from people letting their door slam rather than closing it quietly. There is also some kind of pump for the water system which makes a racket.

I would stay again, but I would take ear plugs. The hotel is really well situated and is very clean and tidy.

This was an interesting experience because there is no reception or lobby in the hotel, there are no staff on site. The key is picked up from a restaurant next door and dropped in a box at the end of the stay. All payments are done electronically. The rooms were quite small, but very clean. The location is absolutely fantastic, right in the centre of town amongst lots of restaurants and bars. It is also only a short walk to the ferry terminal. The sound-proofing wasn't great so if you are a light sleeper other peoples comings and goings (and slamming of doors) could keep you awake. Parking was provided for a small fee and wasn't on the premises - it was a 5 minute walk away at the local football club.
