“Delicious buns”
Reviewed February 13, 2014

Stayed next door at the rooms and went in cafe most days for breakfast. A lot of reviews said it was expensive but we found it was was about the same price as the other cafés in the area. Bath buns were delicious as was all the food we had we even brought buns and bread home with us.

“Nice food, but overpriced.”
Reviewed February 11, 2014 via mobile

Decided to stop here for a coffee after a lovely walk around Ambleside. The buns and the cakes in the shop window look really inviting, so we thought we'd give it a go. I decided to have a vanilla slice and a cappuccino, my husband also had the same, but with a slice of the Cumberland sausage pie. At £3.15 for a vanilla slice, I think is a little over priced. The slice of Sausage pie was priced at £6.25, ok came with a little dish of salad, but again, overpriced. An added 40p was charged for the option of having the accompanying chutney. All in all the bill came to £18.50, a little steep just for a little snack!! I will say the staff are very friendly and the place itself is very clean, with nice food. There is the menu outside with the prices on. Maybe we should have checked this out first, before entering, as it would have been a no goer! One thing if I may suggest.... a mirror in the ladies toilets would be good.

“Overpriced, but Lovely Food.”
Reviewed February 11, 2014 via mobile

This is a lovely little cafe in a beautiful town. It has a warming feeling and lots of delicious pastries, pies and pasties. Staff were friendly and food was served quickly. We had a slice of Cumberland Sausage pie. This was excellent with a hint of cider, potatoes and pepper. Served with coleslaw. However, £6.95 for a slice of pie in a cafe is a little extortionate and they had a cheek to charge 40p extra for a thimble full of homemade chutney. This should have been included when you are paying nearly £7. Again, the vanilla slice was beautiful but at £3.15.....really! The final bill also showed an extra 70p for strong coffee. This is a lovely cafe with great wholesome food but an over-zealous pricing policy.

The best hot cross bun I have ever had. So soft and very tasty. Tea served with a separate pot of hot water. Had a vanilla slice to take home and these were also wonderful. Very friendly staff. Cannot fault

“Cramped & overpriced”
Reviewed February 9, 2014

Nothing special about this cafe. They've managed to squeeze in as many tables as possible without making you sit on your neighbour's knee. Service reasonable, quality of food & drink average, but overpriced.
