“Couldn't ask for anywhere better!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 12, 2012

Have been meaning to review our stay for a while...We stayed here for 4 nights over the October/November half term and turned up on the Monday evening to a warm welcome from Dave. He offered to take our bags for us and showed us to the room, we stayed in Room 3. It was spotless, and a perfect size, the bed was also very comfortable, the usual tea/coffee making facilities were there as well, there was even the option for fresh milk if needed. The bathroom was compact, with a powerful shower and a really handy heated mirror so it didn't steam up (what a great idea)! A heated towel rail was a bonus for drying the inevitable soggy shoes after a days walk, there was also a drying room if you wanted to use it. We were also allowed to park the car in a locked parking area that Dave gave us the keys to, as parking isn't the easiest elsewhere.

The morning after our first night we were welcomed by Angie in the breakfast room overlooking Compston Road. She offered us tea/coffee and took our order for a Full English, we tucked into our cereals/fruit/yoghurt while we waited. The cooked breakfast (with black pudding of course) was, quite simply, the best we've had and set us up perfectly for the day ahead. We got chatting to Dave about walks/weather etc..he used to be involved in Mountain Rescue so his advise was invaluable! Dave and Angie also told us about some great places to eat in Ambleside for the evening, Dodd's and Zeffirelli's to name two of them. Overall, our stay was perfect and will definitely be staying at Claremont House again when we're next visiting.

Thanks again Dave and Angie for a fantastic stay, hope to see you again soon.

This was our first trip together to Ambleside and we didn't know the area too well, so we were delighted by our stay at Claremont House. Yes, parking close to the guest house can be a little bit tricky but the proprietor, Dave, offered us the keys to a secure lock-up where we kept our car for the three days we stayed in Ambleside.
This is a little gem of a B&B: the rooms are beautiful, spotless and had lots of hot water; our breakfast was delicious, plentiful and used high quality products; Angie and Dave were attentive but not overbearing and offered us lots of advice and information about the National Park.
Ambleside itself caters brilliantly for tourists. There are dozens of lovely restaurants, cafes and outdoor shops. We would highly recommend the Thai restaurant at the top of the hill.
We'll definitely be back for another stay at Claremont House (hoping for better weather next time) and I'm going to heartily recommend it to my friends and family.
Thanks for making us so welcome, Dave and Angie!

stayed for two nights over half term with my little girl aged 3 , we were in a small double at top of the house. The room was spotlessly clean and the en-suite was fab with a great shower. The beds where very comfy and nicely furnished. The free wi-fi was a bonus for me because i was tucked up ready for bed early due to little one being very sleepy after a hard day feeding ponys and walking near by. The breakfast was very nice and my little one was well looked after with her strange combination of bacon beans and jam toast very nice!! all in all dave and angie looked after us very well and we will be back visiting again soon, many thanks paul and annie
PS. message to other guest houses in the area who would not book us in because my little girl was too young, your loss Claremont gain, very many thanks once again dave & angie..

A really pretty part of the world. The b&b is on the one way system that goes around ambleside. The shops/pubs/restaurants are all a brief walk away. The hosts are very friendly and have excellent local knowledge. The room was nicely furnished with comfy beds and a cracking shower. Breakfast was very tasty and they were accomdating of our muddy mountain bikes

We have just spent a night at this lovely guest house, and loved everything about it. We had the family room at the top of the house. The double and two single beds in the room were spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The whole room, including the en-suite shower room was beautifully clean, we loved the cushions and the blinds too! After a very wet walk we were able to put our wet clothes in the wet room to dry. The breakfast was fantastic, everything you could possibly want, even our very fussy son loved the toast! It is in a great spot close to everything you might need. Dave and Angie were lovely hosts. We will recommend it to friends and we are already looking forward to a return visit.

Have stayed at this bed and breakfast over the last five years on and off, and having recently signed up to this site, I wanted to thank Dave and Angie for thoroughly fantastic stays. Dave is very knowledgable about the montains and can give good advice. The room prices are good value and the breakfasts, filling. Perfect location right in the centre of the village. The chinese opposite is a good option if you fancy a night in. Dave and Angie will let you eat in in the Dining Room.

Room Tip: The one at the top of the first flight of stairs always suits us!
